Also very important is to consume fats. Think of polar bears. Fats have a slower metabolic rate brakedown than carbs so will last longer to keep you warm than carbs. Carbs are better if you are active hiking as they brake down faster to give you energy. Fats keep your warmer while camping. We burn about 1000 calories alone while in the sleeping bag during the night. Also it's good to pee before going inside the sleeping bag as the body uses energy to keep the urine warm.
