You know the effects are amazing when Sam is genuinely uncomfortable. All the way through the plane crash stuff he looked like he really didn’t wanna watch any more.

"I'm feeling it"
yeah, that sums it up well. That crash scene was straight up brutal, without the need of gore, and the snow scene was extremely claustrophobic. They did their jobs SO damn well.

Society of the snow was filmed partly in a real mountainside environment as mentioned by CC. But the whole background was then replaced by a full CGI reconstruction of the real mountain where the plane crashed in the 70's (the film technical crew spent a few days in the real location in the middle of the Andes mountain). There is a 50 minute documentary available on YouTube about the tech used by the Spanish team behind the movie.
And I really recommend watching the movie as it is an extremely visceral and apparently truthful recreation of the real events.

The plane crash scene in Society of the Snow was so impressive and had such an impact It made me feel sick in a way. Usually movies don't have that kind of effect on me, which is why it is such a well done scene.

As a 6'5" individual who's legs are jammed into the seat in front of him if he doesn't get a bulkhead or exit row seat, I really felt that plane crash scene.

You should compare the plane crash to the depiction of the same disaster in ‘Alive’, which was also done brilliantly.

I love sound design of the plane crash scene. For me it's like a half of what makes it so gutty, visceral. Wish that Corridor would make an episode about sound design, so overlooked part of filmmaking. Great episode as always!

Extra ❤❤❤ for Niko commenting on unnecessary long shots... totally agreed, a lot of the time it's just filmmakers showing off without the show gaining anything substantial. Love you guys for stuff like that!

13:58 If Nico wants true to the Halo series then he shouldn't watch season 2 either; the writers show non-stop contempt for the source material, to the point that an admiral calls for one of the coolest moments of the Halo: Reach game and is literally told "no". The visual effects are good, but the writing is still absolutely horrific. The height of the season are the last two episodes, which have some good moments, but it's only better by comparison to the rest.

My problem with the Avatar Airbender Netflix show was that everyone’s outfits looked brand new like it was taken right off a store rack. The world didn’t look “lived in” at all.

Society of the Snow was one of the more beautiful/anxiety ridden movies I've seen. Incredible film.

Hats off to all those who worked on Society of Snow. The horrors experienced in that true story vividly grab audiences from the footage shown here in a way that is genuinely stomach churning and that's all thanks to top-notch filmmakers via every aspect of the production who are completely in sync with each other at every step of the way.
