Are UFC Fighters underpaid?
When we compare the UFC with other major sports leagues, like the NBA and the NFL, the UFC doesn’t pay their athletes as much revenue, dishing out 16-20% compared the other leagues’ 50%.
But what happens if we compare the UFC with its close cousin, boxing?
According to ziprecruiter, the average boxer can make $40,000 a year, compared to the average UFC fighter making $160,000 a year.
And on the low end, a boxer can make $1,000 to $10,000 starting off, but in the UFC, the low tier starts at between $10,000 to $30,000 per fight, which doubles if you win your fight.
So starting and average UFC fighters earn more than boxers, but the mega-stars don’t even come close,
with Floyd Mayweather earning over $500 million in his career, compared to Conor who’s made between $20 and $50 million from UFC fights.
So when you look at it from all sides, it’s not so simple to ask

Comparing all boxers from all organizations to MMA fighters in the UFC (the premier MMA promotion) isn’t very helpful.

Comparing all of boxing to one promotion in ufc?

If you use boxers as a whole you need to compare them to mma fighters as a whole and from what I’ve found the average mma fighter makes $24, 000 a year

There are like 10 thousand boxing leagues, the ufc is the best of the best. You can't just average all boxing earnings with the best mma league

Average boxers dont box on the biggest stage in their sport tho. Average Ufc fighters do

The thing people don’t understand when comparing mma to anything is that they only refer to ufc as it’s the top of the top and all fighters there are elite in a sense.

Are we comparing boxing to mma or boxing too ufc, ufc isn’t the only mma promotion

That's why when ufc fighters go big they start to box to make even more money

Most Boxers not making shit shouldn't be relevant to this.

We should decide wether or not the clean money the average UFC fighter makes is fair or not on our own.

The Ali Act Needs To Be Amended Legislated Into MMA.

Does the payment also considered health insurance? I can't imagine such a physically taxing sport not getting health insurance (think WWE and WWF did not pay health insurance back then).

These stats aren't really realistic since connor said himself he made 50Ms from his fight with khabib alone

No not at all. Just like Sean O'mally said 'I think people forget how much $50, 000 is' which is true

It's the gap and that boxing usually has a face they pay much more than others

It's difficult to compare team sports and individual sports, so the NFL comparison doesn't work.
We should compare the average UFC fighter to the average tennis player for example. And the net salary also doesn't work since most UFC fighters have contracts that stipulate they will compete 3 times in a year, when most other athletes can compete many many more times. So maybe the correct comparison would be the average salary per hour or per appearance.

I understand fighters train basically every day and it's hard work but training doesn't earn the UFC money, just like a tennis players training doesn't earn them money.
(Of course the tennis comparison is not perfect since UFC fighters are tied exclusively to UFC while tennis players can play in many organisations tournaments, but it's also not realistic to believe a UFC fighter could compete many more times even if they weren't exclusive to the UFC since fighting is much more grueling)

Averages are not a good way of measuring because the gap is just so massive

Also in team sports the players are not forking out for their own coaching and facilities.

There is a very big difference in this in that you are not factoring in regional promotions in mma. Taking only the top of mma and comparing it to the entirety of boxing is not a fair comparison in the slightest.

the reason its 10-12 instead of 50 is because a fight has two people basketball and football are team sport
