I did for 5 years. It’s a great daily drive. Okay, luggage space is useless but you can get the weekly groceries on board. Where it’s great however, is in the city grind. Firstly it rides really nicely and the cabin is tight but comfortable. Next, the engine, having Atkinson cycle capability, is really elastic. It will pull cleanly and without complaint from 1600 in any gear and it’s really torquey. This means you can be really lazy with it in traffic if you want to. It doesn’t need constant gear changing in traffic because the engine is so flexible. Finally, because the car is light and agile and softly suspended, it moves around a lot to control inputs which makes it hilarious fun even when you are doing 50kph driving to the shops. Oh…and it runs on the smell of an oily rag too. Yeah…as a one up conveyance it’s a brilliant daily drive…with the added bonus of being one of the best cars you’ll ever do you Sunday morning backroad blast in.

Have dailied an ND since 2015. It’s more practical than it looks.

My center console holds a utility knife, sunglasses, pen, small flashlight, ear plugs, and a few other items. The rear center storage box holds a lot; more than most glove boxes. I’ve got too much in there to list. There are also storage boxes behind each seat. I keep rain ponchos in the passenger side one; tire plug kit, dial tire gauge, and a few tools in the driver’s side.

Compact umbrella fits in the passenger side well between the seat and the door sill; emergency extraction tool fits on the driver’s side. Hat stows between the center console and the passenger seat. The two cupholders are adequate.

I’m 5’11” / 250 lbs and my car has the Recaro seats, which are narrower than the standard ones. I fit fine. The passenger side is snug if the passenger is taller than average. I fit there but admit to feeling a bit hemmed in.

The trunk hold enough for two people to go on a week-long road trip, provided you use soft luggage and fill all of the available space. I’ve done it many times. I’ve also brought home several week’ worth of groceries from Costco, using the trunk and the passenger space.

Then there’s the fact that the car is low maintenance and exceptionally reliable. I don’t baby it and I average 29 mpg. People who drive more conservatively see close to 40 mpg.

The only times I find it lacking is when I need to transport more than one other person (obviously), and when my wife and I go to the beach. With a passenger, there’s no place to stow beach chairs or a beach umbrella.

Everyone that buy a Miata is for it's drivability not for being practical, it's my favorite car!

Best car I ever owned. Daily-ed that car for over two years, and loved every second of it.

You can daily drive any car. Just depends on what you're willing to sacrifice.

I've been daily-ing it for 2 years. The glove box between the seats is plenty big and the small compartment behind the shifter is plenty big for all my glasses. Love the car!

I've been living with my ND2 RF now for a year and 6 months and can honestly say I've had 0 issues having this car as my daily

Rarely, I've had to squeeze something in the passenger footwell with someone sat there

I've had weekends (4 days) away with 2 people's luggage and it all fit in the boot. 2 smaller backpacks, 2 weekend (over night) sized bags, towels and other bits and bobs. Yes it's not as easy as just opening a fiesta and throwing it in, you have to plan your packing of the boot. But it's still fine.

Mine does 50mpg down the motorway with cruise on.
Is comfy
Sporty
And amazing

Miata is always the answer 🤷🏻‍♂️

I daily my nd2 for 8 months now, still the best 30 minutes of my working day every time. As long as I don't have kids, I don't need a full-size SUV or practical wagon to move my asses around. Mx-5 is all I need at the moment.

I daily one of these. I love it. My commute (almost) never sucks. I drive it all winter, too - just make sure you get good winter tires. It’s really fun in the snow.

Had one for 3 years as my daily. Tried 2 other more “practical” vehicles, a 4x4 pickup then a Fiesta ST and am now back in a Miata!

Honestly, if it wasn’t more expensive than the Mazda3, I’d wanna buy this car. Even though it has basically no trunk space and only room for one passenger. Looks fun to drive.

My daughter has one (same colour). She daily drives it but she is 23 years old no kids. I will say maintenance and running costs are really good compared to any other sports car
