Amex Continues To Ruin Their Cards (MAJOR Delta Card Changes)

The American Express Delta Co-Branded cards just underwent major changes. The annual fees on the Delta Gold, Platinum and Reserve (business and personal) cards all received annual fee increases. To offset the price increases, each card offers a few new credits and benefits. In this video, I break down all of the changes and give my thoughts on all of this.

Using any of the links below directly supports myself and my channel and I truly can’t thank you enough for doing so!

One thing I have never understood with Amex is that they are "supposed" to be for more affluent customers, yet most very affluent people do not shop via coupons or adjust their spending for 10–20-dollar incremental rebates?

These changes are totally ridiculous, the Resy restaurant credit is only usable in big cities. My city has NONE of them. Also the ride sharing, everyone has a car and who travels EVERY MONTH?

I stoped using American Express all together

Soon people will justify paying an annual fee of over $1000 for a coupon book lol not me thanks, not a sucker.. I get low annual fee cards with good points earnings for my specific needs. I don't need coupon books.

One thing I think we can take from this is that the AMEX Gold card will most certainly have a 350 a year annual fee within the next 6 to 9 months.

I have the business version of the Delta Reserve, so paying 650 a year for that card was going to be a little intense but, I’m actually happy with some of the updates.

Until now, I’ve only used it to book flights for my photo shoots/productions, so that I get the enhanced travel protections/insurance that come with the card. But now that they’re offering the Resy credit, as well as a few other things like the hotel credit and the Hertz status that’s great. I have that with the Venture X but seeing as that card is losing it - I’ll keep it through this. And hey, at least it’s a business write off so even though it’s $100 more a year it’s a write off.

I don't see the companion pass adds any value because I am single🤣

The Delta Stay credits are pretty good. They’re worth more than the $50 Chase hotel credit that one gets with the Chase Sapphire Preferred but just as easy to use. And they don’t have a $500 minimum spend like the $100 Citi Premier Card hotel credit.

Essentially, it’s a free night certificate for a $100 or $150 a night hotel. Not bad.

These cards have a target market. It should be fairly easy to see if it is a fit for yourself.

I’ve had the Delta Skymiles Gold for years, but in my case I don’t travel exclusively with Delta for it to make sense anymore. I cancelled it this week.

you forgot to mention that the Delta Platinum complimentary seat upgrades is also after Reserve card members, which makes this perk absolutely meaningless

Interesting so if 1st delta ticket costs $3, 500 then I can get 2nd one for free ? ( companion pass )

I always fly delta 3-4x a year and don’t feel the Reserve makes sense for my style but having access to their lounges would be nice. Guessing it’s a $650 charge to access them. I’m conflicted.

What I want to know is if i book now and pay in advance to get the Delta stay credit, but my hotel stay isn't till April, and I cancel the Delta Reserve card in March, can they clawback this credit?

I net positive my cards every year and the changes are a major plus! These are just enhancing the benefits of the cards.

Do you think there will be similar changes to the charge card lineup?

Intelligence has the tendency to breed arrogance. This is what’s happening with AMEX, depending the refresh on the gold and the platinum personal one I might cancel both or keep gold idk yet

I think the changes are fantastic. Amex is an upscale brand catering to high income and high net worth spenders. These changes align with their target customers lifestyle.

I love the companion certificate changes. The Delta Stays credit makes me feel far less inclined to pay for extra insurance of any sort.

I plan to hoard the hotel credit in case I plan a trip and something happens. Weather Flight delay. Whatever. Use it for the last minute booking. Get paid back. Still file insurance claim with American Express. If they repay it. Cool. If not. Hotel credit mostly covered by them anyway. I won't stress about Uber and food reimbursement.

Having Delta Platinum Business and Delta Reserve Business, that is combined $450 easy credits. I am anxious to read data points from world experiences about if it credits full bill. Taxes, fees, parking, room charges, and nightly rate. I hope they do not mess with that and turn it into Hilton card style credit of $50 quarterly credit.

I'm super happy with the changes to the delta reserve. More than satisfied to pay an extra $100 for the perks like enhanced companion pass.

Does anything have 2 b done/spend requirements to earn the Reserve's yearly companion cert?
