Flies That Catch Big Trout: Paul Procter’s CDC Spent Caddis

Paul Procter is well known for being an absolute machine when it comes to catching big trout on dry flies. A student of bugs, he spends countless days on the river observing fish behavior and hatch schedules, only taking a cast when he comes to a fish of a large size. As a result, he's become an expert on matching the hatch and feeding trout dry flies. Through this process, he's developed many extremely effective dry flies to fool these rising fish. Procter's Spent Caddis is just one such fly. Intended for the days when trout are keyed in on spent or crippled caddis, it can be absolutely essential if the fish aren't interested in adult caddis. Join Fulling Mill Technical Manager Steve Carew as he ties the pattern in this fly tying tutorial.

Tied on our Czech nymph hook this fly features our new Euro Nymph Body and Thorax Dubbing, our Flex Floss, our Bug Foam and our CDC. You can find all of the materials—and the finished flies—from this tying tutorial on our website below.

Looks great! I will make a few up and try them next week on the Waioeka River down under in NZ. Thanks for the great pattern.
