Chernobyl is actually a really beautiful place now too, there are many endangered European animals that thrive in chernobal now. Bears, European moose, wild horses, etc all thrive in the absence of humans at chernobal now.

Me and a Friend went for a Tour around Chernobyl a couple of years ago and it was an exciting experience along with mixed emotions upon entering some of the buildings there... I did my best to imagine what each place was like before the explosion, especially the Fire Station, School & the Leisure Centre.

The kids weren't given gas masks. No one was. It was massively downplayed. They didn't even evacuate until 3 days after and everyone was told they'd only be gone for 3 days.
I know because we had a girl from Chernobyl live with us for 2 weeks as a part of a fresh air project. It was live changing and heart breaking. I was maybe 6 at the time and she stayed in my room because I had bunk beds. My parents explained that she and all the kids were very sick and that was why they had been brought to Australia for a holiday. I remember the truck load of medications she had to take every day. But we also played. She loved all my dolls and their clothes and she'd use them to tell me stories. Her father worked in the power plant. She said it was a little scary but when they were told by officials that it was safe no one worried anymore. They continued to play outside in the sandpits and playgrounds, all of which were contaminated.

I watched a documentary of a hospital dr that worked in the town when the reactor exploded she said they had 2 babies born the day after one was all black from the radiation and the other was dead after a healthy pregnancy. after that the drs ordered all the pregnant women with in the area to come in immediately to be checked out no matter what gestational stage she said they examined over 180 women in 2 hrs this could explain the obgyn chair out side maybe the hospital was to full from those injured by the accident they had to do the examinations out side of the hospital in a tent or something

That deer photo with the growth's all over it, I've seen a deer like that in WV, it was acting funny, and a lady stopped to see what was up, she didn't know what she could do for that deer so she took pictures and video it was actually in Sandyville WV, my hometown, which is about 35 miles south from Dupont in Parkersburg, where they had the big C-8 scandal.
