I have 5 cats that would disagree with the assertion that cats don't crave affection and attention from their owners. They DO crave it, but on their own schedule (like 3 am). Also, while cats may seem to be ignoring you, in reality they have a near-perfect 360-degree scan of their local environment. When they seem like they are "ignoring you" it's because they are very comfortable with you being in their space and feel relaxed enough to tune out a bit. It's a compliment, really.

We had a female calico that would respond to verbal commands. If she was headed to an off-limits area, all I would have to say is ...."Don't go in there". And she would lovingly obey. At times she would behave more human-like than cat-like. I remember the slow blinks, the purring, her wanting lap time and drooling when rubbed behind the neck. And most of all, being there constantly beside me when I lost my son and she knew I was grieving. Got her as a stray. Best pet I ever had. She was truly a family member.

Cats who "ignore" you are also demonstrating how trusting and comfortable they are around you. If they're laying on the cat tree with you in their peripherals, it's basically their version of a chill hangout sesh. When I found that out, I noticed it alot more and it made me feel more connected:)

If we go out for the day, our cat always does a 'victory roll' or 2 when we come through the door, then demands some love. He definitely craves attention.

My cat, Jaguar passed away almost 3 years ago, raised him since he was a kitten, live to be 19 years old, would come to his name, and I would whistle and he would also come to his name Jag, of course I miss him dearly, he would follow me almost everywhere I went, would even heal when I was walking, he would greet me everyday when I came home from work, would actually hop on the hood of the car. When he passed away, I had him cremated. I have never had another pet sense Jag pass away, with so many fond memories of Jag after so many years, I don't want to go through that heartbreak again, but he will always be in my thoughts and my heart ❤️💓

Not craving attention from owners, really depends on the cat. Some of them really don't like being ignored. My sister's cat will tap you until you pet him, if you don't comply he will headbutt you until you do.

Yeah, Mr. Kitty has been hitting the bottle hard lately.

They never exactly ignore you. They always have an idea where you are, and when you’re in a shared space they are very attuned. My kitty wants to be nearby. She reaches out for affection when she wants it, which is the cat way. This parallel existence is what I love about having a cat. We both have space!

Not craving attention isn’t always true. I know plenty of cats who won’t leave you alone until you show the affection & give them attention.

my old cat Snoes sometimes pretended he was fighting a prey with loud angry meowing when i was out of the room, when i would go back in the room he was sitting next to his prey, (his favorite stuffed squerrel) looking very proudly at me and i had to praise and pet him he did well haha

So it must be the ultimate cat compliment when they come and sit on your lap. That’s probably why you feel like you can’t get up until they decide it’s ok 😅

Cats love affection and cuddling, but on their terms. When they‘ve had enough for awhile, they will take a break until they‘re ready for more. 😊

My wife used to have a cat that caught a baby rabbit, and I brought it in the house and tried to save it. After that, he brought us LOTS of mice, and other small animals, that we figured he was trying to help feed the family.

My old cat Batty absolutely loved attention, would come to sit with you whenever you made a sound, and would let you pet him and love him forever without being upset. He was the greatest, and I definitely still miss having my big bro to watch hocus pocus with every year, he’d been around since day one of my parents bringing me home from the hospital, and was only around a year older then me. He was basically like a brother for me, and a great friend. Definitely the greatest cat ever.

Our late cat Five would chatter on command when we asked there to "talk" to us. Tell her "talk to daddy" or "talk to mommy" and she would "ackackackack". I also had her conditioned to do that for treats with a sing-song rhyme "one for the money, two for the show, three for the kitty, go cat go!" and Five would chatter after EACH line! Then I would throw a treat for her to chase after. She was a wonderful brown tabby girl with beautiful green eyes.

My cat doesn't go 2 hours without wandering where I am and needing me around she's like a baby needing my attention almost 24/7

From my experience, even very social cats will "ignore" you.
They act as if they're not trying to get your attention, while trying to get it so you start petting them.

One of my cats will follow me around, but with a bit of a delay. So if I go into a new room, they'll wait a second, then follow me, as if they're hiding the fact they're following me.
