Thats a thing of beauty right there, perfect crisp sounding blow off..
The ideal sound for any turbed car..

That's not a blow off valve opening, that's your turbo being wounded.

Sweet. LOVE the flutter. Plus that's a really clean EVO.

Ps- That parking lot is perfect for your EVO.

guys what you listen hear is a blow off valve and its job is to maintain the turbo pressure steady because if it goes very high it could cause serious damage

This is one of the best BOV sound videos ever! great work!

Was running a Racepro Type S or whatever it's called. But when the Silvia is running again, I'm going to run a genuine Greddy Type RS blow off valve I have sitting in the room boxed up. There's a difference between turbo flutter which you hear in this video, and compressor surge. Turbo flutter occurs when you let your foot off the throttle on low rpm/boost as my previous comment mentioned, compressor surge occurs when you're giving the car max boost, high rpm or high load.

Surge limit of any turbocharger or pump is reached Not only under acceleration(standard load pres.), but also in deceleration, when our setup has no bov or the bov's spring is stiff/hard and "lates" its opening. This Evo has a push type bov(Tial) and the bov only opens under highest boost dif/nces, in lower boost the bov doesn't open and the comp of turbo surges. Please check, read(and quite of the comments) and understand this two links in order to gain knowledge.

My mates GSR used to make that BOV sound. It was epic

There's only the 50mm, the Q, and QR from TiAL. They're regulated by the spring inside, which runs off how much vacuum your engine pulls: most engines pull around -18 to -20"Hg, and TiAL has specific springs for specific vacuums. So if you get cams then you have to get the spring that coincides for how much vacuum you're pulling as well. Another factor is vac hose size. Mine was too small so I was fluttering all over the place. Replaced with correct size and sounds like what a TiAL should.

Or you could just put in a softer spring! It's vacuum that opens the valve btw

No it doesnt, Ive been BOV LESS on my Mr2 turbo for about a year now (its my DD) I have had ZERO problems. absolutely no shaft play what-so-ever. Ill be making an exhaust video on tuesday and would be more than happy to point everything out and explaining it a little if you would like. even with a little shout out! :D

Nice Eclipse btw. I'm not really a Mitsubishi fan since I've had problems with my VR-4 Legnum and GTO in the past with them hand grenading the engines but credit where It's due man.

IT HAS A TIAL BOV and a HKS
As a matter of fact SSQV opens at once when you leave throttle because it is a pull type BOV and only works with a signal from manifold(for an opening/activating method), as a result vacuum is created instantly when from revs we leave throttle so the ssqv opens quickly before pressure is build and while rotating the turbo creates this tvt t-t-t-t sound.

Its the BOV making the flutter sound. Its designed that way.

yeah it can damage bearings. supposedly as the air rushes out backwards it makes the turbine blades spin the wrong way, then as the turbo spools again it pushes against the blades spinning the wrong way so that they spin the right way and create boost again.

basically it puts extra load on the turbo and prematurely wears it out.
everyone says something different, but thats the most common way ive heard people explain it. lol
