So how would you know your locs have build-up without spliting your loc into and/ or what do you do about it

So is it true you can break that down using an apple cider vinegar, vinegar, rinse and massage then rinse really well with water. I’ve had several different techniques, and I just don’t know what the least damaging for the hair. I do know that the buildup of Servatius oils and dead skin can deteriorate locked from the inside and you can lose your beautiful locks. Please advise.
