$270,000,000 For 2 Pizzas?

Last month, we celebrated Bitcoin Pizza Day, a significant moment in the history of cryptocurrency. It all started on May 22, 2010, when Laszlo Hanyecz, a Bitcoin enthusiast, made the first real-world transaction using Bitcoin to buy two pizzas.

Back then, on a popular Bitcoin forum, Lazlo offered to transfer 10,000 BTC to any forum member that would order two pizzas to his address. Eventually someone took him up on his offer and ordered him the pizzas.

True to his word, Laszlo transferred his fellow forum member 10,000 Bitcoin, even posting in the forum “I just want to report that I successfully traded 10,000 Bitcoins for pizza” – immediately sending Lazlo into the history books.

And so Bitcoin pizza day was born! It’s a day that the entire crypto community remembers the early innovators that explored how crypto could reinvent how we send and receive value.
