🚨Train with me Online by joining The ADV Academy 🚨

Interested in the Kawasaki KLR 650 S and it's off road capabilities? We got a chance to ride the KLR 650 all around our adventure bike training area and put Kawasaki's lower version of the KLR to the test. A lot of adventure motorcycles sit quite high and can be intimidating , especially if you are new to off road motorcycle riding. The Kawasaki KLR 650 S with it's lower seat height is a great option to bridge the the gap between a smaller dual sport motorcycle to the ADV world.

Hear from our ADV off road instructor Daniel Sedlak what he thought about the KLR 650 S after spending some time on it.

I'm 64 years old, I got the KLR 650s, I'm glad I did, I would not take for it, I love riding it on the forest roads and back dirt roads places I could not ride my Harley.

I’ve wanted a KLR650 for as long as I can remember. When I came across an S model, I bought it. I’m really enjoying it so far. Thanks for the video!

I'm 5'-9 1/2" w/ a 31 1/2" inseam, 225 lbs, 63 yr old and just bought the KLR650 Traveler. On day 1 it seemed a little high for me and I had to tip toe at times, but after a couple days I got used to it real fast. Did some fairly challenging riding already in the Black Hills. Totally in love with the thing now and anxious to get out and do some trail riding after 40 years of street riding on my Harley.

I just bought a 2024 KLR650S. I have had 3 of these now. A 2006 (1st Gen), a 2008 (2nd Gen), and now a 3rd Gen. I am average height and like the ability to flat foot the 'S' version bike. I find it a little funny that these are called "adventure bikes" now, the KLR has been around long before that was a thing. I use it mostly as a commuter ride, and it's great for that and just general exploring and screwing around.

Cool! Would love to see your Team's assessment of the standard KLR model as well. Very popular bike amongst Adventure Riders, especially newbie riders. Thank you! Great content.

Thank you for the review! I have the 2023 KLR and has been great. I have been riding and filming across America. It's a very comfortable bike.

Hi there, nice video. Seat height with KLR’s has never bothered me because I have long legs ( on my third KLR now) but I’m really glad Kawasaki did this. It might encourage more riders to get on them and get out there. Thanks again. 🇦🇺

Great review man! I bought mine yesterday, I am 5'9, it just right for me and I love it!

A rider could install a lockable toggle switch to disable the ABS, for hard sections. I’m gonna make that one of my first mods.

Hey, thank you for the video. I was debating whether or not to get the KLR-S or the KLR but this helped thank you.

The KLR-S has three main issues - getting stuck on the skid plate due to very low clearance; - it’s a very heavy pig offroad(I’ve picked it up more than 50 times at this point.); - it’s very wide, especially if you mount engine guards. You’ll definitely get stuck in dry washes.

So no, it is not like a dual sport or proper adventure bike at all. It’s a light-offroad capable road bike. I still love my KLR though. I just have to accept that I’ll need a second, more off road capable, bike.

Great video I truly enjoyed it, I just purchased a KLR S none ABS and I love it, I was worried about the lower height it really hasn't been an issue, thanks for the hard work!

First, thanks for the video, very cool. I’ve purchased the KLR650s and it fit me to a “T” so to speak. It’s way improved over my 1st Gen 2000 KLR which I absolutely cherished. This is a great bike for all, as a commuter and to get dirty, very versatile 👍🏾👍🏾👍🏾

Lovely bike. Wish it had 40+bhp and a tall overdrive 6th gear for highways.

Biggest pro for me... The klr will do 98% of what a T7 will do for half the price. The klr has around the world thousands of times over.

Love your approach to this unique bike, thanks...

Glad to see Kawasaki thinking about us shorter riders.
Just curious where in Ontario you ride for your motorcycle reviews, great trails.

I almost got the S; on my non-S, I can place both feet on the ground...on asphalt. Sometimes, on uneven, rocky ground I would like the S. Anyone less than 34” inseam should consider one.

That looks like put by Campo. Great riding areas out there.
I wanted to get a KLR last year, but I’ve got stumpy legs, so I passed and got an XT250. I’m trading the XT in for a KLR650S next week!
