I really like the idea of making a world and ... doing hero and dungeon stuff.

I am not sure what constitutes a Fantasy Wargame that could make your list, but here are some games that I have played, that I can recommend and would consider Fantasy Wargames:
Fallen Enchantress, currently 66% off and a decent fantasy 4X wargame from 2013
Knights of Honor 1 and 2 are also on sale currently. Both are good games, especially KoH Sovreign (2)
Warlock - Master of the Arcane (2012) and Warlock 2: The Exiled (2014) - both are on sale and very fun games, though I prefered the style of the first one

Honestly i think buying Dominions 6 and getting the warhammer mod off its workshop would be a better bang for your buck than warhammer 3.

SOVL is a "its warhammer if you squint" free game on steam.

Unironically using Wonderdraft and some dice rolls to play an isometric 4x fantasy game is incredibly accessible because of how easy it is to use the tools, and is actually way more fun than i realized. (Nookrium did a video of "playing Wonderdraft 4x" 3 years ago)

Spellforce Conquest of Eo from the devs of Fantasy General. Probably the best one off this list since it introduced some important innovations in the genre.

I consider Battle Brothers a fantasy wargame: am I wrong? It's bordering on some other stuff to, but ultimately you recruit a squad and fight enemies including orcs and undead. I had a lot of fun with it. I'm definitely going to buy Kingdom Dungeon Hero because I played War Plan and it was solid.

Not sure if it totally fits, but "The Heroic Legend of Eagarlnia, " and "Lost Technology" are pretty fun strategy fantasy games. Along wirh "Warhammer: Shadow of The Horned Rat"

Age of Wonders 4 was my GotY for 2023, and it's definitely a fantasy wargame. I'm still returning to it from time to time, over 650 hours in it.
