Guys like you are why emergency rooms are so popular.

Before I sold my towing business, I would pull trees, roots and all with my rotator semi tow truck. Makes quick and easy work on bushes, shrubs and trees. Kind of an expensive tool to use, but I already owned the fleet of trucks.

Is that why they call it a trencher and not a stumper. 😉

That’s the reason they have stump grinders. Quicker and generally you don’t break anything.

I’ve pulled thousands of stumps, some are mean, some were the size of the excavator, some you had to piece out, the best method by far is to leave about 10-12’ of log attached, or the entire tree if possible, it self tips once a few roots are detached…we also use a frost hook that’s set up to fit multiple machines, it speeds up the process dramatically and reduces backfilling…..and be kind to your machine!

To pull a stump you need to get the ground somewhat ready to let the stump go . You need to backhoe around the edges of the trunk to cut and/or uncover part of the roots so they can bend and snap off when you put pressure on the trunk that is left of the tree . If you can, then water what you have uncovered and let that soak in for a couple of hours . Then the stump will come out a lot easier . Work smarter not harder .

The good news is that although expensive, it is an easy fix for any shade tree mechanic. I will advise you to get an extra hydraulic line and those 1”pins that link the components. And when the welds break, my muffler shop had a great welder on site to fix that. Seven years on mine

I found little backhoes like this to be just a little bit better than a shovel.

Seriously? 😂😂😂
The damn small ass tree was already leaning that way.

Using a chainsaw without eye, ear, head, feet and legs protection. Wow !!! Keep praying and praising your guardian angel. I am not surprised by what you did to the backhoe. Maybe a cooking video might be better for you.

I did the same thing with my small Chinese three-point-hitch backhoe. Taking a 12" stump out was an afternoon project. Now it takes me about 10 seconds with the latest addition to my equipment. I now have a Caterpillar 50 ton excavator and I have not found a stump yet that just doesn't come out with one pull.

If it's a small tree like that one... don't cut it down.
Use tow straps up high on the tree, pull with a truck to loosen roots from the soil, and pull side to side. Once you loosen it,
You can do the rest by hand.
The larger roots will reveal themselves when you pull and cut them with a Sawzall.

A picture of that pretzeled ram will get you a million clicks! Maybe a caption "Quick Returning Hydraulic Ram"!
It's safe to say the manufacturer is better at annealing than hardening. Lol

as a guy who pulls a lot of stumps looks like you had some lessons learned on this day. i do not own one of these machines from harbor freight but i did by a mini excavator. i would recoment looking to see if you can make a ripper tooth it makes it about 50 percent faster to get through the anchor roots

Looks like you cut down one of the last trees in South Dakota.

I ripped my Harbor Freight backhoe bucket in half... 5 lb of 2 inch X 3/32 metal strips and a lot of weldoing rod... The bucket is bullet proof now, so I bent a cylinder pushrod. I spent more having a replacement MADE than the OEM replacement, but the new one will bend the boom before it fails.

Tru to get out further so you break off the roots where they are weaker.

The machine is really good for the price but has the power to tear itself apart.

I just put an old bar and old chain on the chainsaw and do stump cutting-grinding to get the stump 6" below the ground. Quick and easy...old bar and old chain are free...sharpen chain ready to go again...in the future.
