The 6100 Class of large Prairie tank locomotives was originally introduced to service by the Great Western Railway in 1931. Join me in this video as I complete a quick build and review of the 00 Gauge BR 2-6-2 Prairie Tank Locomotive Kit (C062) by Dapol.

I remember building one of these as a kid sheltering from the rain in a caravan on a campsite somewhere in Kent. The kit was purchased from the only shop on the campsite for a couple of shillings and was moulded in a much darker plastic than the later Dapol reissue.

Wow, I have never seen a kit for a train engine before, it looks great. As an older kit you can probably expect a few fit and flash issues, but that aside it looked really good and seemed to go together well too. Many thanks for sharing and have fun,
Joe

Your right about the wheels. I build a battle of Britain class when they was airfix. The wheels ran very loose. The piston system was very similar to this little kit. But all in all the kits are timeless and are great for (like you said) static or on a dioramas.

Great job on the train model. I like the addition of the 2 crew figures....brings it to life. Happy modeling. Bill

I love your process although I would rather paint all parts before putting them all together but your model looks beautiful

I have the Airfix model kit of this loco too. It's an original late 60's-early 70's model so I'm torn between building it or leaving it as is, on the sprues still. I got a very nice set of cast metal driving wheels and axles with the kit so may try electrification. The part you mentioned about the motorised wagon may just be the ticket! Plenty cd drawer motors that may suit. I suppose I should give it a go, one pin missing from the motion set and the decals are rotted out so some new ones might be in order!
Thank you for showing this Dapol version. Cheers! Keep Well, sir!

I’ve worked with a fair few of these, lovely little things, though I’ve never actually tried to make them roll on the supplied chassis, the two I’ve built run on RTR chassis units, one on an Airfix GMR chassis, the other on a heavily modified Triang Jinty chassis, though I’m tempted to get another of these kits and see if I can make it roll, would be fun to see if I can rig together a powered wagon to go behind it, given that was the original intent of these kits

I'm planning to buy this model kit since it's cheap and I can add as much weathering as I want and I can add some more details

When you build it, I recommend using Tiny screws rather than use the pins. And also lube up the wheel area

Love these kits but have you noticed that you have put the number in the wrong place on the bunker? I know the decal is slightly too big for where it needs to go

I thought I was not quite ready to build a locomotive - though I have made a couple of buildings. But now I am not so sure. Im thinking of getting one of these, or see what else Dapol has to offer

Is HO and OO Gauge the same thing? If you mind me asking.

Is there a way to fit a motor in the locomotive

I wish they would just make a Pere Marquette 1225. Best looking train ever.
