Excellent video as always and a great review in HM158. I'm looking forward to picking up one of the Late BR examples.

Got mine 2 weeks ago DCC fitted version. Unfortunately it stops on all my points pick ups out of line and excessive wheel play.
Waiting for a reply from Hornby
Lovely detail and bodywork though. Runs quietly and smoothly on the rest of the track work.

Ah! I really like the look of the Forthcoming BR Green one, but this one has got a Reading Shed code, which is a place, I planned to model!

Were there any visual differences between the 5101 and the 6100?

I wish mine ran as smoothly as this. It stalls where no other loco stalls and the pony truck falls off!

Nice video, and a good companion to the associated article in the magazine. However, may I respectfully point out that there is no visible representation of "valve gear" on the model. The locomotive has outside cylinders and drive motion, but this is not valve gear. The valve gear on the full size version is located between the loco frames. On the 61xx you would need to very "up close and personal" to the locomotive to see it. The model is very impressive indeed. It is now on the wish list. Hornby really are setting the bar high these days.

I just received one of these for Christmas. Looks great and it was DCC ready. Should be able to put a sound decoders in it but SADLY NO, well at least not a Hornby one as they are all too large for the allocated space (they are all generic with the exception;of the sound files) they do not fit, neither does the supplied Hornby speaker. I believe the Hornby engineers need lining up and shooting since they can’t get the internal designs right for their own accessories 🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬

Bought mine a month ago, had to send the first one back as stopping on points, motor noisy, slowing on curves, front wheels came off twice . Second one still stopping on some points, front wheels came off again and whistle at a 45 degree angle which I managed to straighten . I have the older Hornby model and the Airfix one and they both run better than this . It only weighs 230 grams and seems to be nearly all plastic and very fragile . Very disappointed wish I hadn’t bought it .
