Scientists Discover the LARGEST Star in the Universe

Our Sun is pretty big. In fact, it’s so big that about a million Earths could fit inside it. But how does our life-sustaining ball of plasma compare to some of the other giants out there? When you start to think about it, the scale of it all becomes almost incomprehensible. Some stars are a thousand times larger than our sun. Others are millions of times larger. And the biggest are nearly 10 billion times larger than a sun that’s already a million times the size of our pale blue dot.

Welcome back to Factomenal. Today, we’re taking a look at the largest star in the known universe, Stephenson 2-18 (St2-18).

10 billion times bigger than the sun, which is 1 million times bigger than the Earth.

Mind blown

Considering how big the universe is, there will be many more record holders to come. 😬

I can not wrap my head around the sizes mentioned, it’s beautiful, it’s stupendous, it’s daunting, but it’s just wonderful. Fantastic video, great information.

The Largest star you'll see is when you're still playing on your computer at 4am and your father finds out and smashes your head to the computer table

The numbers are simply incomprehensible. Mind-boggling.

‘Largest star in the universe’ eh? We can’t possibly view every star in the observable universe, let alone beyond it

There's clearly a bunch we still don't understand about the space we exist in! Thanks for posting.

every time we say something out there is impossible the universe seems to go out of its way to prove us wrong . i think we need to stop using that word when it comes to our theories of all thing universal

A slight qualifier on the title of this video: the star in the video has only been known as the biggest in our galaxy for less than 10 years, and as we haven't come close to measuring all the possibly 200 billion stars in the Milky Way the chances of Stephenson 2-18 retaining that title for a long time are pretty slim. As for the rest of the possibly 125 billion GALAXIES in the observable universe, the chances of our little galaxy happening to have the biggest star in the universe are even slimmer. A 1 in 125 billion chance, to be more precise!

Makes you think how small we really are in the universe while our minds can makes us feel bigger than the universe.

This scale is so massive that humans aren't capable of understanding or comprehending it.

There is no way the largest star in our universe is just going to be right in our own galaxy

Our UNIVERSE, so big and so diverse! We might not discover everything in it. The sky is sufficient for birds to fly with no collision with one I'm making a well researched video on space as well. Great video, Fact!

This star is so big that there's possibly hundreds, thousands, or more intelligent alien lifeforms that know of its existence, each with their own name for it.

You know its just amazing when your video's turn me into a gibbering idiot. My neural network is lacking in capacity while trying to comprehend the universe. Thank you for the video.👍

I dunno why but sometimes the sheer expanse of the universe and all the unimaginably big things in it make me feel kinda lonely. Like, what's the meaning of all this? Why is the universe like this?
