My wife and I are currently working through a home study, so we may be approved for adoption. During our adoption training, we have been vigorously trained, as adopting parents, to always defend our adoptive children from comments like that if we ever do have biological children. One case worker even went as far as saying that if family members don't stop making those comments, you avoid that family member at all costs. Adopted daughter, I hope your adopting mother is vigorously defending from those comments, saying things like, "I already AM a mother, she is my daughter."

People can be so oblivious when it comes to adoption😑 I've had people ask me if I wanted to be with my "real" parents or other stupid things like that. They *probably mean well, so I usually try to ignore it, but sometimes snark is my only answer like "WOW I had no idea the people who raised me are FAKE😱🙄😂"

To be fair, I think Jordan may have overlooked one thing about the brother-fiancee situation. I don't think he hates his sister's fiancee just because he's sad that she's getting married to him and leaving him, because she said that they knew each other from college and it kind of seems like he ALREADY hated him for some other reason. I'm guessing it was something that happened at the college.

Um, the adoption one I understand very well. I am not the child who was adopted but the one who is trying to adopt. People do say mean things like don't you want your own. Here is the thing though in the parents' mind it does not matter. In your new brother or sister's mind it does not matter. You are their family. To me when people say stuff like that it hurts me because they don't know the love I have for this child. A child I will have one day through adoption. So talk to your parents because they will understand more than you know. Merry Christmas everyone!!!
