Thank you for this. The clog I was dealing with was with the sponge filter itself. We had left the reservoir on the unit while it still full. Turns out that a biofilm filled up the spaces in the sponge and when removed the water pooled in the inlet immediately drained. Washed out the sponge and now running as good as new. Without looking at the drain as you do here, doubt I would have removed the sponge filter in the first place.
