This 2017 Mazda MX5 RF features Flyin' Miata's new bolt-on turbo system for the ND chassis RF's and Roadsters. The turbo system itself is by BBR, and is 50-state emissions legal. This test vehicle also features Flyin' Miata's Stage 2 suspension system(set a hair too low for car shows) and big brake kit.

Build List:
BBR Stage 1 Turbo system (full California spec)
Flyin' Miata Hush-O-Matic exhaust
Flyin' Miata Stage 2 suspension (FM springs, Koni Sport shocks, FM sway bars)
Flyin' Miata little big brake kit
17x8 949Racing 6ULs with 235/40-17 Yokohama S.drives
10mm spacers (Don't recommend these with this wheel and tire combination - MF & KT)
Verus Engineering rear diffuser

This is one of the most beautiful cars made right now. Especially in a price range most can afford. Everything else is trying way too hard in the styling department. This will age well and is simply gorgeous.

I loved the technical nerdy talk in the beggining about the knock prevention, intake temperatures, turbine choice, exhaust speeds... I love nerdy talk Matt, bring this guy more oftenly!

Great company to get parts from with top notch customer service. I was in a bind and needed one of their parts quickly, but the main run of that part had not yet started. So they offered to sell me the prototype. It worked flawlessly and saved the day. I highly reccomend the Flying Miata guys.

There's a company in the UK called "bbr gti" that now sells forged pistons and con rods that lower the compression ratio to 11.5:1... And apparently it's doing well with the turbo conversion and they're starting to see reliable numbers over 300bhp... The major issue with stock mazda internals is the con rods, apparently they're the weakest link in assembly with knock causing catastrophic failure by bending the rods after just one or two hard pulls from a stationery position...

I'm not a huge fan of Miatas but this RF with a turbo kit would be my ideal "fun car." It looks so beautiful in red with gold wheels.

I drove a jaguar soft top, a new one at that, and fell in love with my Miata 2017.

Damn. Gold on red looks pretty good on that Miata.

All this car needed was 250 + HP and 250 + Torque and proper suspension work that gonna cut down that annoying lean on the corners. Beside these, this is one of the top 4-5 perfect designed/made cars those made during past 10 years.

The NA was released when I was 10 yrs old. I was a mad car fan back then.. Still am, but I have autism, so as a kid, I knew everything about all production cars back then. My ma flirted with getting an NA back then, so I've had a fondness for the MX-5 (as its known here in the UK) since then. My family owned a couple of Mazda's, but never an MX-5. With the ND RF whispering _sweet nothings_ in my ears, I think the time has come to take the plunge! Particularly with that stage 1 turbo kit and the extras! 😍😎👍

Matt is there any powder you can recommend to this MX5 for the chafing from all that rubbing?

Great vid. Keith Tanner is very knowledgeable. Interesting to hear about the GDI limitations on power and how they dealt with the high compression ratio and turbo.

Other than no choo-choo noises and the terrible spacers, I am loving this setup!

Why do the states west of the Rockies only get 91 anyway? Doesn’t higher octane fuel produce less carbon dioxide emissions?
