Easy how to CNC Shou Sugi Ban CNC Sign making!

Shou Sugi Ban (焼杉板) is the process of charring wood to preserve it. Originating in Japan during the 18th century, it was a way to make cedar siding weatherproof. The technique has become popular in the West for its aesthetic appeal with the nifty side effect of protecting the wood for up to 50 years.

I haven't got a cnc yet but I was honestly just thinking about Shou Sugi Ban for sign making during the week. I figured you'd burn the piece first and then rout out the profiles.

Thanks so much for the video. I recently tried this but I ended up with significant board warpage after the torching. Did you do anything special to minimize this?

Very nice job on the sign. The music was a bit much for me, but I'm one of those weird ones who would rather listen to the machine run.

Great video and instructions... Pity about the music though 😁

Sorry, didn't need the music or the moving waters to get the point. Yes, you burned wood and cut a sign. Nothing spiritual or exciting about that.
