Today I’m showing you how to connect a washing machine and tumble dryer to a single standpipe so you can drain your tumble dryer automatically without having to empty the water tank. This is specifically for a STANDPIPE connection. There are other connectors available for under the sink at funny angles etc.

As a fellow Geordie I was dead pleased to find this video from Google. It is exactly what I needed, thank you!

Fantastic - thanks. For years I was trying to stuff 2 pipes (washing machine and dishwasher) into one standpipe and often disaster occurred as one would pop out without me knowing and flood the kitchen. So, sat down this afternoon, watched your video, went to the shop bought part, and then fitted as per your instructions within 5 mins of being home. Tested and no leaks, so now currently got a washing load on in my newly installed twin connector - feeling like the queen of plumbing (63 year old lady and still learning!). Many thanks.

Just what I’ve been looking for as I need to discharge a washing and my relatively new heat pump tumble drier into a single standpipe. As always thanks for the hints and tips and your attention to detail. 👍🏻 Mike

You are a clever man, Andy. The following is true: I have been thinking about you all day as I’ve ripped out our (MFI, 2004 - I still have the receipt) shower because yesterday water was pouring into our downstairs loo through the ceiling rose. Now, take a trip to see your Father in Law tomorrow and help me out, please. 😊🌞

Perfect - thank you for this. I have the same setup and have been putting this off for a year! The heat pump dryer is the best dryer I have ever had.

Used this video to do exactly this last night, popped to screw fix, got that exact piece and had it all installed in under an hour. Thanks so much!!

What is that little grey funnel called at 4:22? My drain hose didn’t come with one.

Always nice to see that someone who knows what they're doing did the same as me guessing from the Screwfit catalogue! Works perfectly (although mine is a bit more cramped with the standpipe in a cupboard) and no leaks in 2-years (he says going to check!).

I've recently got rid of an immersion tank and put a washing machine/heat pump dryer in the cupboard that used to be there. I came up with a different solution because my dryer is on a (heavily engineered) shelf so the dryer and washer can be moved independently of each other. It was cleaner in my case to extend the standpipe through the countertop and have two 40mm tees with the appliance hose adaptors on them at the right height for either appliance. Then I stuck an air admittance valve on the top as overkill (I probably could have left it vented but at least it stops anything falling or crawling down the standpipe).

It took me a while to figure out the best solution for this problem, I think because stacked washer dryers are more of an American thing and most info and products you can find on Google are for that part of the world. It's good you've made this video to fill that void for people in the UK.

Cheers, I had just jammed the two hoses in the same stand pipe as the dryer one is only about 15mm or so. Will grab one of these for peace of mind as I knew all along it was a bodge and it's just below the electrics.

Thank you so much for this video. I'm new to DIY and not very dexterous but I was able to buy the right parts and fit them properly to connect my washing machine and dryer to the standpipe. Thank you 😊

Great video Andy, I've got fitted the under the sink adaptor .The sink waste from the top and two side fitting for a washing machine and dish washer. I have fitted one of these fitting's in my brother's house for his washing machine and dish washer as he fitted a standpipe, we done this at Easter/Spring time when we fitted a new kitchen. My brother and I refitted the kitchen in about 5-6 days. great video mate, take care see you soon👍

Nice and helpful. Had never realised there was a standpipe specific fitting like this. Love going through the reviews on likes of screwfix, argos, b&q ( other stores are available ), it gives a laugh to see some of the negative reviews being left, negative because of user error.

Looks good, didn't know these existed. I just warmed up the pipe with a heat gun so the hole was elongated and popped both pipes in.

Thanks Andy, I didn't know about this type of arrangement so good to know for future reference !

Screwfix Q&A and Forum can be a good source of entertaining content, it's also sometimes informative !
