Valve Index Long Term Review

I've had the Valve Index for 6 months and this is my long term review of it.

I just order my index yesterday and now all I’ve been doing is watching videos about the index

I feel like the best thing about the knuckles is the fact you can let go.
Blade and Sorcery, Boneworks and The Walking Dead S&S are weird to play without them now.
Not as robust as you might say though. I hit mine once against a wall and the trigger broke. I glued it back on but am now getting problems and sending the controller back for replacement.
It sucks being so close Alyx but I don't want any problems while playing that game.

I told myself I'd wait until VR tech went through a few iterations and was "ready" before I bought a headset. As soon as Valve announced their own, I knew it was time before even looking at the specs. Ordered it a few months after they released and couldn't be happier.

Finger tracking don’t add much? It seems like The Lab, Boneworks and the upcoming Half-Life: Alyx are built around them.

As a first batch pre-order, myself, I couldn't agree more. Index is well worth every penny and had I known it was this good over my vive pro wireless, I would have happily paid double the asking price. Of course, my main hobby is VR at the moment, so it's disingenuous to say that everyone should go out and buy an Index. However, if you want the best VR experience, the Valve Index is it. There really isn't anything that comes close at the moment. To top that off, Valve are the people that are the leaders/authority in the VR industry, and their product reflects that.

If you RMA your controllers, they will send you the updated version with the new reworked thumb sticks and better trigger button. All the problems were fixed.

Really love the headphones on it. The biggest pro against a oculus rift in my opinion.

Amazing review. Haven't had a headset and might buy a index later this year if there's stock available. All I wanted was a review to be from the perspective of long time use and the controller issues. Glad to see not all people have those issues.

Thanks a lot for this review. I ordered mine in March when Valve restocked it, and I’m still waiting for it (it’s finally on its way this week!).
Your feedback confirmed what I already deducted from the many reviews I’ve seen: the Index is reaaaally good.
I had the occasion to try it before ordering it, and the only thing that would be a bit annoying for me is that I have a tiny head, so It’s kinda hard to make the set fit correctly (even with the back foam).
But hey, once I get mine, I’m sure I can make it work perfectly, with some tweaks :).

I think the finger tracking isn't a game changer but the immersion you get from just bending down and picking something up is amazing. This is coming from someone who until last week was using the Vive wands with a Vive Pro and jesus the grips were awful

The valve index is amazing, well worth the 1000 dollars imo. Its the best overall headset by far.

The object pass-through, which is seen as the glowing edges of real environment features seen in lieu of the standard artificial grid-work created when approached IRL, is an excellent feature essential to keep you safe in your HMD as you move about.

The Vive Pro has the same feature, but HTC secretly removed it from its successor, the Cosmos, which was an important safety issue, and I left the higher resolution Cosmos to return to the Pro.

Beware of this, HTC keeps the lid on this deletion. I run the Pro and the Index as I like; none of the Zuck for me.
