with my helix i found that i'd use a preamp model for going into a tube poweramp, and a full amp model when going into a solid state power amp. with a full amp model going into a tube poweramp, you essentially have two tube power amps in sequence colouring the sound. a solid state poweramp is much more linear, so having a simulated tube power amp in front of it works great

I think it would be really cool if you reamped pre-recorded playing through both of those and do the phase revert test on them so we could hear exactly what the difference is.

Today on Ola's YouTube channel we will be seeing how to make another random piece of equipment sound like a MesaBoogie MK IV :). Great stuff as usual.

Just played a gig with a helix going through the effects loop return of a Bugera 6260 and it sounded great!

The Seymour Duncan sounds ok, but the KSR sounds waaay better. The Duncan sounds like its in another room with the door shut. The KSR sounds like its right next to you.

Something to try on the Seymour Duncan - add a BBE Sonic Stomp to it and see how much it opens up the sound.

I like the KSR personally. I have the KSR PA25 and it's awesome. For those saying it's too bassy, Ola has it on the guitar mode, not hi-fi. The hi-fi mode is brighter, and cuts a lot of bass. It's more transparent. Also, if he moved the negative feedback clockwise, that also cuts bass, grit and shifts more mid focused. The amount of tone shaping in the power amp is pretty significant. I actually use it in conjunction with the Axe Fx iii power amp modeling and it sounds pretty damn good.

Maybe SD will sound better when you will move knobs from 12 o clock, like you do in KSR..

Positive Grid Bias has been my fav for the power amp stage modelling. Its mostly a case of nailing the resonance and low end distortion. Unsure how they're doing it in dsp.
It's cool you're making these vids and letting the audience decide through the compressed YouTube audio. 😂 😝

This goes for any modeler, use a tube power amp to wake it up! I use the 20w Mooer Tube Engine with Kemper and Helix.

I think the problem was leaving the EQ on the Powerstage at noon. I run Helix XL stomp into SD Powerstage and I've pretty much managed to get rig od those nasty frequencies just by playing with the EQ on the Powerstage.

It would also be interesting if you compared the low price Harley Benton GPA-100 to these two. Great video as always! 🤘💜🤘

I use the Tone X or the AX8 with an Engl Fireball 50 Watt. The Sound you've shown reminds me on this setup. A tube poweramp in combination with a modern modeler ist the best Setup for a live gig. Great Video. I totaly agree with your opinion

Still have my Kemper from when you reviewed it, nice to see how it evolved into a small pedal

They both sound amazing, and both have benefits! KSR sounds amazing, but it is kinda big, great for the house or studio. The powerstage fits in a helix or kemper case pocket, live gigs couldn't be more simple. Both amps are awesome if they meet your needs!

Ola, KSR gives it that 'umph'. Both are great, but for different applications. As always, we thank you for doing all the hard work for us. Dann

For my taste the KSR sounded beefier. The Powerstage sounded good too, but I prefer the KSR sound. Keep up the awesome work Ola! 🤘🏻

As an audio-engineer I think the Powerstage sounded WAY better. But I also feel like the difference was mostly just the EQ curve. The powerstage was way more mid focused while the KSR sounded overly scooped to me. The KSR sound will disappear in a mix and needs heavy EQ'ing to be usable, while the powerstage will instantly sound good. However I do say that as a more modern metal minded person. The KSR might work better in a more oldschool type of mix/sound.

But I also think the KSR was a little bit lower in volume, so it wasn't really a fair comparison. I'd love to hear a comparison where they're closer in EQ curve (Matched on the units themselves) and loudness matched as well, preferably on the units, but can be adjusted in post just for fine-tuning if needed. I think that would paint a much more fair comparison between these units.

Ola, watched a vid of Tim Pierce a couple days ago about the Fender Tonemaster and he mentioned you in the video. Good times bro.

I use a valve pre-amp into the return of a Bluguitar Amp 1 Iridium. Effectively an all valve rig as the power stage in the Amp1 is also valve. Sounds fantastic!
