I know that they are mostly harmless, and I am not usually afraid of insects but these things are terrifying.

Cave crickets and house centipedes are probably the two things that kept me up at night if I didn't catch them

My cat loves them. He gets to hunt and have a snack between meals.

You are all waaaay to afraid!
These are really fun and harmless animals, I nurtured a population to 200-300 big in a fishtank together with my millipedes, huge cockroach and flower beetles. If you give them a chance and actually observe them they are really fun.
They dance around females doing dorky dances with their small wings (they can't fly), headbutt each other like goats or pull each others legs when fighting over females or food.
And if you throw a handful of peas in the tank and step back you see dancing peas. Their camouflage will make them hard to see from a distance so you just see the peas bounce all over the place. Grown crickets can lift up a single pea, and they don't like to share them :P

Anyway, give the weird/scary things in life a chance and you might find great joy in them :)

I had these things colonize my basement almost a decade ago. It's not just that they're ugly - They're also completely silent and they jump very high and spontaneously. Usually I didn't have to deal with them but occasionally the cats would bring live ones upstairs.

I can't wait to get an Emperor Scorpion as a pet and I won't need to buy food for it.

I’m so glad that they’re not common in America I’d cry

Even though they are harmless when they jump it never fails to give you a jump scare
