Why Does The Strokes' 'Is This It' Have Two Covers?

The Strokes released Is This It in 2001. With Last Nite, Someday, and Hard To Explain it was a certified good album. La la la. Hey, have you heard The New Abnormal? That's a good one. Julian Casablancas, Albert Hammond Jr, Nick Valensi, Fabrizio Moretti, and Nikolai Fraiture really put a lot into these huh?

Oh btw, Room on Fire, Modern Age, The Adults are Talking, Reptilia, You Only Live Once, Hard to Explain, rock music

The atoms colliding feels just as iconic. Plus with the color choices it adds to the cool warm, summery vibe of the record. I consider the New Abnormal cover to be a small homage to this album with how similar the color pallets are.

It's not atoms colliding. It's a bubble chamber, which just shows the trajectory of charged particles in a magnetic field.

In Canada where I live, on CDs and (most) vinyl it’s the atom cover. And streaming has the ass. Also, I thought that was a knee for way too long.

Indonesia has a huge cassette business that makes albums looking different than any other version of the cassettes. That’s why it has that cover.
There’s a similar thing with “punk in drublic” by NOFX as the Indonesian cassette is red, but mostly everywhere else is green.

Interesting. I heard it was because the song New York City Cops was not popular after the September 11th attacks. So it was pulled from the record and a new cover was issued.

Honestly I love both images. The butt is infinitely iconic, but that atoms colliding image is very cool

This is wild I literally saw the world wide cover at this record store today

I love the original cover. Things sometimes happen like this, in the most unexpected way. My best friend said "sometimes the stars align" and in this time one of the most sensual and elegant covers emerges.
👏 👏 👏

The other difference between the two albums is the exclusion of the song New York City Cops from the U.S version as it was released post 9/11 and having a song not in support of the police was seen as very un-patriotic. Which after the events of 9/11 was seen as worse than anything.

To someone who knows so little about the band that I thought these were separate albums (i.e. me), this is very amusing.

even though the yellow and blue one looks way cooler, the butt one fits better the album

Dude, from reading the title I thought he meant that they covered two SONGS in the album lol
