5 Reasons Mary Was a Perpetual Virgin (From a Protestant)

NEVER thought I'd make this video haha but Merry Christmas to all of you!! Mary being an ever-virgin makes Jesus being born into the world & being FULLY God SO much more powerful and believable. Making this video made Advent & Christmas so much more reflective for me and made God's incarnation into Jesus feel SO MUCH more vivid and tangible. A lot of times I get caught up in the theoretical and this world of just arguments and words, but this belief helps me view Jesus in images and emotions and a closeness to me that I can't put into words.

¡ Lizzie you're so brave ! you made this video even when you knew some protestants just like you would be scandalized, and also it takes very braveness and discernment to believe and support something that some churches deny so fiercely. So nobody can call you a non-protestant, because only you know what you believe and what you are, and you have decided not to stay with what you have been told and taught, but to research and to look for truth yourself. You inspire me in your ability to research for the truth with such an eager an open mind. I wish I was able to change my mind to assent to the truth as quickly and gracefully and unashamedly as you. As a Catholic, even though I knew many of those responses, you reminded me of the profound depth of the writings of the Church Fathers and the rich intellectual tradition they provide. I can sometimes take certain doctrine for granted, and, just as a parent delights in the awe of a child discovering the world for the first time, it gives me joy to see you stumble accross a precious gem of my faith. As a lifelong Catholic I just learned so much from you, thank you! We were just discussing this topic last week in bible study and I didn't get why some were so passionate about everyone getting this point. The Lord leads us for sure, as I was questioning how I didn't know some of what was being discussed after 54 years in the faith and here we are a week later and a Facebook friend posted one of your videos which caught my interest and I then watched several leading to this one. The primitive church was first name “Catholic” by Ignatius of Antioch (Letter to the Smyrnaeans 8) in 107 AD. In which he was a direct disciple of St. John and St. Paul and second successor of Peter in the government of the church of Antioch. He was considered bishop by the apostles and the third one in Antioch. I enjoy your enthusiasm for theological topics. Your scholarship is evident as well. Where we modern English language, armchair scholars get into trouble with understanding the scriptures is being too depended on the plain reading of the text. Sometime ideas get lost in the translation, ie the "brothers" of Jesus. As protestants we lack the humility of the Ethiopian eunuch who declared to Phillip -"How can I understand unless I am taught."

Merry Christmas, Lizzie! I wish I'd seen a video like this years ago, when as a Protestant I had many of the same objections to this doctrine ... You have such a gift for communicating tons of solid research in a straightforward, passionate-but-not-preachy way. It was especially transformative when I first began to take seriously all the typology implicit throughout Scripture (e.g., "Mary as the new Eve") and its implications, which after all was how the early Church from her very beginnings (and many or most Jews at the time too) read Scripture. The sex thing is really important too ... Our culture unfortunately does not have the necessary metaphysic to understand how (rightly engaged) sex itself is genuinely good and holy yet also ordered beyond itself to God's fuller, all-encompassing love, and how being consecrated exclusively to this higher love can make it sacramentally present in the world in a uniquely powerful way. Above all in how Mary brought forth JESUS! Merry Christmas again!
