Call us back in 2027, when the 777X is (supposedly) entering service

I mean, the 777X isn't that much of a rival is it? Considering the A350's been in service for exactly 10 years now and the 777X hasn't even been certified

777x is a pretty dam heavy bird. Bolting on modern efficient engines and new wings can only help so much.

At this point, they aren't rivals. The A350 has already been in service for 10 years and is more modern, technologically advanced and economical while the 777x hasn't even been certified. It's not even a contest.

Even if the 777x successfully launches (which is still not a certainty), how many passengers are going to trust a Boeing made plane with a new mechanism like folding wingtips, after all the safety issues their planes have had? It's just another MCAS waiting to happen.

Boeing is under heavy pressure to launch successfully the B777-9. This program cost billions of dollars. 3 times more than anticipated. The A350 program is already profitable. What a difference. Airbus can react to a potential success of the B777-9. Boeing can only pray for that. The widebody segment is more prestigious than really critical for both planemakers. The engines of the A350, especially the -1000 version is a small problem for some airlines. Emirates is still undecided about the service program. Except that, Airbus is a real challenger. Even in the cargo market. Qantas gave a blow to Boeing by selecting the A350-1000 over the B777-8....future will show which is stronger and smarter...

1:48 The 777x will have GE9X engines, not GENX

We are concerned with difference between A350 that is already flying vs 777x that stays 9n the ground flexing its so called wing tips.
I personally will go with fly safe policy. Thanks to Airbus

I don`t doubt that after the B777X EIS it will be successful in it`s sector although I believe that sector to be niche though when compared to the A350-1000`s sector. A350-1000 is the new B777-300ER & most airlines that don`t need a large business & 1st class will be happier with the AB aircraft proven economies, dynamics & costings. For those airlines that have ordered B777X servicing the higher end of the market, I`m sure given the operational reliability they expect they`ll be equally happy. There is definitely room for both aircraft to be successful. As an avgeek I want to see both thrive in the market place.

Airbus Vs. Boeing. I enjoy reading all the emotional responses to the products one loves. And can't wait for COMAC to join the fray.

Airbus could build a clean sheet aircraft with near exact specs of the 777x and still enter service before the 777x is ever certified. The 777x will never enter service….I called it 3yrs ago.

One builder incorporates *safety* in their philosophy, the other one doesn’t!

Many airlines from Cathay & Singapore will operate both. British Airways will fly both as will Korean Air & China Air of Taipei. An A350-900 supplements both the A350-1000 & 777-9, look at Cathay flying both plus 777-300ER to LAX, JFK and LHR.

"The Boeing 777X has fantastic economics" Really?
The A350 is cheaper, consumes significant less fuel, even per seatmile, and has a longer range and is now for more than 10 years in service. The truth is the Boeing 777X survives only, because it is Boeing and the queuing time now to get your hands on a A350 from Airbus is extreme, because the high demand outstrips production.
The Boeing customers have no real choice but to wait.

COMAC could build a "939" to compete with the 777 and A350.
