2015 VW Volkswagen Golf MK7 KEY FOB Battery Replacement

Hi, this video show you how to replace the Key Fob battery on a VW Golf MK7 2015 model. The Battery is a CR2025 and is very easy to replace.

Once the battery is changed you may have to re-sync the keyfob or it will not operate. You may not have a key entry into the is hidden! The drivers side door handle will have a small slot under the handle cover. Look under the handle & you will see it. Insert your key into the slot & gently prize the cover off. This will now reveal the key insert. Insert your key into the lock & turn clockwise to unlock position. Remove the key & press the unlock on the fob. The doors should open. If the alarm sounds enter the vehicle, insert your key into the ignition & turn on. The alarm will stop & your key is re-synced. Whatever happened to simplicity!

Thank you, it worked! As many commenters indicated, my 2015 Polo also needed re-sync: after changing the battery it didn't work. I just opened the car manually, then removed the key from the door, pressed the open button on the fob, and from there on it worked.

I've been at this for over 2 hours with my 2016 Golf GTI . I rather stupidly had'nt removed the sticker off the back of the Duracel battery !
Yours was the only video that mentioned this minor fact so many thanks for that ! All good and no re-sync needed . Thanks again .

Vince..you saved me. BOTH of my fobs would not work on my GTi. I couldn't get in ir start the car. I called the AA and they put brand new batteries in both fobs. But only one worked. They said I'd need to take the other one to the dealer to do a full reset. But I noticed the red light was working on the one that worked so I figured the battery was not working in the second fob even tho he put a new one in. I followed your instructions and cleaned and replaced the battery...and it worked and was synced. Saved me a trip to the dealer. Thanks.

For Mk 7 golf, you may have to re-sync the key after battery replacement otherwise key won't lock and unlock remotely. In order to re-sync the key, press unlock button on the key fob and unlock the driver's door manually (by putting the key into the handle on the driver's door and turn it clockwise). that's all, key is re-synced and it will lock and unlock remotely
