My grandad is 103 and still here, he served in the British royal airforce. He always speaks highly of the US forces he was stationed along side, he said the American officers always invited him and his friends to their barracks and shared their plentiful rations, cigarettes and alcohol with them, the British could not believe how much stuff those guys were given but were grateful for the brotherly love they showed 🇬🇧 🤝 🇺🇸

Update 2/1/2025, sadly my grandfather passed away on Christmas Day, RIP Grandad George ❤️

Cricket was used for identification and inside the Griswold bag is an M1A1 Carbine with foldable stock

Cricket was a way to identify themselves with fellow jumpers upon landing. Because they jumped at night & was hard to see each other, regrouping was utmost important so squeezing it would mimic the sound of a cricket if another shoulder heard it they would reply with a double squeeze. The U.S military got this from a child's toy of that time which originally was shaped like a cricket. It acted some what like a whistle but a cricket sound

Missing the leg bags that all got lost because that chute jerked so hard when it deployed.

Everybody wants to be a paratrooper until it’s time to do paratrooper stuff. Nice kit.

Griswold bag had either a M1 Garand split in three groups, M-1 Carbine with a collapsing stock, Thompson SMG, or M-3 Grease Gun.

My grandfather was in the 101st. He always said they were dropped so low that the reserve wouldnt open in time so alot of them emptied the reserve chute and filled it with booze and cigs😂😂😂

My late father in law was assigned to be a pathfinder. Last minute assigned to the 82nd. Later was in Bastonge. As this blind soldier told me of some of the highlights of what he went thru. I could only cry. See he was a immigrant from Jamaica. Black man. Joined army in 1939 with the 555th Jumpers. Yes children it was not all segregated. His son my close friend John. Not only his father but he himself was a 2 tour VN veteran 1st tour with Air force special forces. Second tour Joined army was put in MAC-SOG both tours as a sniper. Me? Just a little over 4.5 tours Cambodia. But these men utmost respect. The old man called out to his wife for his special congac he had. Aquired in France. Poured me a shot with his son. His toast he said. "For God and country. Shall there be no other war"

I went through Infantry Officers School USA in 1967. Helicopters did away with the need for airborne delivery. All kinds of problems with parachuting troops -- scattered, loosing gear, excessive wind, inability to make last minute adjustments.

It’s amazing how heavy these loads get. After sitting on the ramp and in the aircraft for hours, by the time you get to the door, you just want out. You’re so heavy, you just fall out. Then relief! None of that weight bothers you while you’re drifting down. Equipment jumps are work. Hollywoods are better.

Looks great, the cricket is meant for identifying a friendly and the Griswold is holding an M1 Garand in 3 pieces.

My grandfather fought in Normandy. He made it out alive, but died of severe infections. I remember one thing he said to me when I started to play football. He promised he would come to every game. He is still here even though he’s dead ily pops 😢

Insane.. the thought of jumping and being absolute shot to pieces in the sky not being able to move/run. It's just like being underwater. You can't outrun a shark. You simply can't. My utmost respect to any soldiers who had to face this.

cricket is for signaling when encountering fellows when landed and avoid yelling . See the "longest day" with John Wayne to see.
