These are quite common for us as well, the EXACT same issue. I take the route of replacing the port completely and end up having to do trace repair. Looks like I was spending way too long doing that instead of just touching up those pins back to the board 😂😂 Live and learn! Thanks Sorin :)

I don't see that lasting long with the centre plastic thing moving, ie, it needed to be glued down.

I had the same problem with a Samsung phone. I checked on the components around the battery connection, then charging started. The battery was faulty, so I had a second try, charging started again. Third time I didn’t need the multimeter, charging started. I used a car charger to do this. Car drivers have additional benefits for devices if they use car charging, car charger fixes the memory effected battery even on Android 4.0, and 2.0. Car charger fixes the charging speed, so slow charging devices switch to faster charging without destroying the battery. One car charging is enough for a tab to have higher capacity and faster charging using its default 1A 5V AC charger. To do this, you don’t need to drain your car battery, just a few minutes charging is ok for the fix.

I still think it is best if the charging port is separate from the motherboard.
You always has to plug and unplug the charger and even move the laptop around while the charger is connected.
To have the charging port soldered to the motherboard is not the best design.
