Tiled showers are my bread and butter.....don't get me wrong. You can't beat a look of a beautifully tiled shower.
However, If the budget doesn't allow for it.....Consider a nice fiberglass unit and add additional features that will provide a great look.

Let's not forget the maintenance involved too! We've had both and the fiberglass is so much easier to clean, looks new 20 years later and didn't need any regrouting or retiling like our custom tile job in the master bedroom. Plus fiberglass is less likely to look dated in 20 years since tile designs change over the years. I will never do tile again!

Just put a 3-piece fiberglass shower surround in myself, absolutely love it! 450.00 all together. Cost doesn't matter, it's all about what you want, or what's easier to do.

They make high end surrounds that look like tile.

I just redid my shower.
Concrete boards was about $150
Aquadefense $100
Ardex 8+9 $100
Flofx drain with a drain cover $120
Epoxy grout $300
Bricks for curb $20
All tile was $1100
Thinset was $150
Deck mud was $25
Total cost without labor was $2065
Steve is almost on the mark but honestly there’s no need for foam board unless you’re in a rush

Sometimes ppl just get sick of ‘cheap.’ There’s no way to disguise. A fiberglass shower is way cheaper than a tile shower. The look alone of a tile is more luxurious. But you have definitely made your point. I agree fiberglass is like cheaper. I didn’t realize how much cheaper until I watched your video. Thx, it was really good.

I’ve never done my own water proofing but I did do tile two showers. Tiles cost around 300 and grout cost even less, probably around $50-80.

Hardiebacker + aquadefence is affordable waterproofing for bath surround. But fiberglass surround is quicker and no grout to clean.

The fiberglass is going to be way easier to keep clean vs tile. I probably wouldn’t use fiberglass in a master suite, but it’s perfect for a basement or kids shower.

I used a delta tub, go board, and discount tile from floor and decore. Delta fixtures, a few pieces of pex, ulta color grout. Probably in for $1000 give or take?

Doing my bathroom next week. I chose tile surround because it looks alot nicer. Those are contractor prices, not diy.

Those fiberglass baths/showers are awesome if you have perfectly level studs. Otherwise, you have to fur out the bow studs and do a dry fit multiple times. If not too much flexing might cause a crack in the fiberglass if you slip in the shower by accident. Steve makes it look easy, it's not even if purchasing a course.

There are seams in the fiberglass enclosure, and it looks cheap. It also doesn't go all the way to the ceiling, which creates a dust collector on the top. At least it's not as bad as the fiberglass tubs, which tend to crack -- something cast iron tubs never did. On the bright side, the fiberglass goes in a lot faster, and can be replaced a lot faster when you get tired of it. Also, although my contractor left a tile cutter in my house, I'm not comfortable with doing tile myself.

200 on grout? Lol. I re-grouted a bathroom last month cost 40 dollars for a bag of grout, used maybe half.

Use the new lighter waterproof boards they are great and they also sell water proofing caulk to fill all seems and screw holes. Only cost me 400 for screws and caulking and all the boards for a 48x48 shower . I also used giant 48x24 tiles with grout and a stone shower pan. All in all paid less then 2500

The first time I seen nothing behind one of these inserts I was like who would do this? Only to realize that’s the way they instruct you to on the installation guide. After installing one I changed how they said to put blocking and added more for added support. I also added insulation to help deaden the noise since the master bath shower was on the other side. I used the Delta tub on mine for purposes of reselling down the road and also added the blocking for future install of a glass shower door if someone chooses to do so in future renovations.

This video is perfect showing the common homeowner the savings from these acrylic modular panels in comparison to tile. And making sure your contractor or yourself waterproofs correctly when installing tile is another common issue we always seem to find down the road when we are called for the remodel. These are easy to clean and are more durable than the older ones that first came on the market. These say that you don’t need to caulk these as much but it never hurts to over build when it comes to waterproofing a shower/tub.

Like this great video shows you can save a lot of money with these and as long as you take your time even a semi knowledgeable person who has some basic construction understanding can install these with ease. Making sure your layout is right and double checking for square, plumb, and level areas will make this install that much easier in the end.
