All the money in the world clearly doesn't grant any knowledge of engineering, international maritime law or how incredibly harsh the ocean is on structures. This is a scam on gullible tech billionaires, more power to the scammers I say.

As a boatman, I think floatsteading is ridiculous.
Proof that wealth is not an indication of intelligence but rather the truest expression of greed and avarice towards mankind.

I’ve worked on water for just shy of a decade, and the water eats everything including billionaires and their overpriced barges, I wish this man the best on his wonderful scam

The floating hospitals thing actually does exist. They’re called Mercy Ships and they’re a charity organization which uses converted liners as roaming hospitals. They often are used as training hospitals for lower income countries looking to boost their number of medical professionals. They were founded in 1978. I’m willing to bet that the seasteders have no idea that these things exist.

Am I the only person remembering what happened the last time a billionaire had his own private simi-autonomous island?

I feel like some of these people saw the world of Cyberpunk as a goal instead of cautionary tale

The stupid thing is billionaires won't want to do the dirty jobs so they'll end up hiring the same people they're trying to avoid and workers would end up making up the majority of the population.

It's amazing their inability to notice the irony of failing and being allowed back into a society whose taxes afford them the safety, security and infrastructure to try again later.

Not sure a billionaire-only floating island is a bad idea. It would be easy to sink it.

Great video, I keep telling libertarians that they already have a country to go to, but they don't seem so keen on Somalia for some reason.

For workers, we already have an example of how this idea is going to go for them... it's called the Qatar World Cup, where workers just ended essentially being slaves.

How about build a libertarian utopia UNDER the ocean? Is a man not entitled to the sweat of his brow? "No, " says the man in Washington, "it belongs to the poor." "No, " says the man in the Vatican, "it belongs to God." "No, " says the man in Moscow, "it belongs to everyone." I rejected those answers; instead, I chose something different. I chose the impossible. I chose... Rapture. A city where the artist would not fear the censor; where the scientist would not be bound by petty morality; where the great would not be constrained by the small! And with the sweat of your brow, Rapture can become your city as well.

Libertarians: We'll build an island in international waters so the government can't control us

I can't think of anything worse than being stuck on a hi-tech floating city with a bunch of the biggest narcissistic egotists in the world... lets face it.. they would only have me there to clean their bogs anyway.

Another issue is both libertarian and conservative governments and the likes of Musk say government should be small and that will be great for everyone. But that does not fix healthcare or fix infrastructure. So an out group is needed to blame problems on. Immigrants, gay people, trans people, atheists or people of minority religions. Billionaires don't believe in free speech or liberty. Only in their own free speech or liberty and are actively hostile to any accountability and transparency
