Mixed feelings about this one. Parents and siblings disowning a family member in such a way was despicable. I am not sure that I could have forgiven them, as did the protagonist in this story. I liked the recycling aspect of this story, which made it different to others I have been reading. It did engage my attention the whole way through so a good story.

When will these people learn that: 1. "prodigal" goes not mean lost or rejected - it means spendthrift, a person who takes and wastes resources; 2. there is no need for the word "palpable" to appear in virtually every story - particularly when most of the time its use is either irrelevant or inappropriate, indicating a misunderstanding of the word's true meaning. Sorry - it was all just too much for me this morning.

It's terrible when a family throws a child away for financial sake. Mel had every right to let the family collapse as it would have without her intervention. But she wanted something none of them realized they were missing, a real family. Not people tied together by blood and DNA, but people who cared for each other despite their job choices.

As to the sustainable electric vehicles talked about in this story. If the power source for the electric vehicles in this story are the batteries used in today's vehicles, sustainability isn't reality. There are finite sources of the material needed to manufacture the batteries, possibly running out one day in the future. If the power source is from something that doesn't require finite materials, then maybe it's possible to have everyone wanting an electric vehicle in the story.

The electric vehicles aside, this is a very good story, showing what is possible within a family when said family finally understands what it has lost and wants to make the necessary changes.

Each piece of this story, is told like the pieces of the craft that Jennifer created, family was like a new item, whether it's car, a vase, glass, etc, then the disowning is the broken pieces of various types of materials, the loss of status in family members jobs and business is the scattered pieces, the outreach to Jen is a gathering of various pieces, where they found out how valuable she was, but the heart of the story is the coming together like destruction of the disowning etc.mutating into something lovely to the rising like that beautiful bird rising from the ashes, and accepting her for who she is and not as someone whom have money to help them, and also Jennifer's forgiveness and causing them to see the kind of disrespectful treatment they gave to her and became humbled and understanding, I am happy about how the story ended!
