Honesty, these guys are incredibly affectionate and protective, even if some people are a little afraid of their faces haha. My big male always comes to greet us and try to sit in our laps, and he’s taken to protecting all of my birds- chickens and other duck species as well. He seems like a big goof but when we had an older duck at the end of her life, he was constantly by her side grooming the spots she couldn’t reach and keeping everyone away from her. They’re quite incredible.

Muscovies are so funny, termites hatched out from a old stump today and we've been watching the ducks go wild running all over the yard and jumping in the air to catch them.

I've seen Muscovys up in trees and a couple used to sit up on the barn roof. I had no idea that they roost up off the ground. Each one of them had their own personality too, which was fun. And the 'dad' will come and visit the babies and would even babysit them while mom took a break and cleaned herself in the water. I swear they talk to each other too. I could watch those ducks for hours- they were so much fun!

My muscovy females work together sitting on the eggs, two will take turns sitting, and then the same two help raise the cute little ducks. Love y'all.

Sounds like the Muscovy Duck is a really good fit for a homestead.  Thanks for the information.

Great information! I was looking at Cayuga ducks because I read they aren’t too loud but I love the pest control the Muscovys are doing for you!

Thank you - I have one muscovy that has just started sitting on her nest. We are new to them - got them last year, but they are lovely and so entertaining. So 33 to 35 days! Am off on a quilting retreat - hope they don't hatch while I'm away!

We had muscovies for several years and we loved them for all the reasons you mentioned. The way we used to answer the question if they would fly away, was no. They will fly around, but they are homebodies and will stay where planted. The guineas, on the other hand, had gypsy blood and wanted to roam the neighborhood.

We have pekins and silverappleyards together and they cover the nest when they leave as well. I'm not sure which one is covering them though. Muscovy look like a great addition. Thanks for the video

Excellent video! Probably The most informative one I have seen to be truthful. We hope to perpetuate a small flock for all the above reasons. We plan on rotation grazing In permaculture planted food plots and using “pests”such as slugs and fly larvae as most of there food source.😃🌈🤙
