I am 70. Without makeup my face disappears. Older women are already invisible. Pam is a star, she will always command attention. I have done experiments in public on myself with and without makeup. My skin looks pale, eyebrows, lips and lashes have lost their lushness. Store clerks, and public in general are kinder, more willing to look me in the eye and engage with me when I wear some color on my face. Each woman needs to feel comfortable in their own skin.

Makeup should be about self expression and feeling good, not about trying to meet societal expectations. I love that she’s feels empowered to make choices for herself.

I was one that would NOT leave home without make-up in my younger years. Now, at the age of 56 I only apply make up for special occasions. I enjoy my fresh face now, especially because it shows how well I took care of my skin throughout the years. Take care of your skin ladies and you will be thanking yourself later!

Exactly. I find it ridiculous that a celebrity not wearing makeup is actually a topic of discussion 🤦🏼‍♀️

I'm 67 and have never been into an overly made up look. However, I have always wanted skin that looked good without makeup and went through a lot of years thinking my skin wasn't good enough to do so. I'm retired now so not going out everyday and my focus is skincare and sunscreen. Truthfully, when I go out I no longer feel the need to look a certain way and that is freeing. That being said my skin has never looked better and people always say I look younger than I am. I do also think that heavier makeup can make an older woman look even older so application is key. It's true that less is more.

I’m over 60 with low self confidence and have worn makeup since I was 16. I have taken good care of my skin, but I am now experiencing some of the sagging you mentioned. I was also diagnosed with a chronic illness last year and haven’t worn makeup for a year because I don’t have the stamina to apply it. I rarely go out except to doctors’ appointments, but I am so self-conscious without makeup on. If I improve and am able to do more activities, I am determined to find a way to wear a full face of makeup when I go out. I think I look awful without it. The makeup is my armor with which I face the world.

I do not wear makeup. I love the outdoors. Nature does not mind what I look like. Well done Pam.

Goodness, she's more than just her make-up. She's beautiful with or without it. That was another time in her life. She probably didn't recognize herself with all that make-up on. She's a natural beauty, and she does what she feels is right for herself right now. Love her for that.

It boils down to “ you do you “ . I wear a little bit of skin care infused makeup. It improves my skin and evens out skin tone. That’s me. Everyone should do their own thing. 😊

I love this makeup-free trend. I may not go makeup free everyday; but I want to feel confident enough in my skin to do so regularly. My feeling is a great skincare routine is always first, then makeup as one wishes.

Love that she’s doing that. I understand why it’s such a buzz, makes sense, because of who she is. She’s actually being a good role model for women. 👏👏

I totally applaud and respect her for taking this step. I would love to go out without makeup.
I am 51 and have worn make up since I was 14. I think I may have Body dysmorphic symptoms/disorder as I can't bear to look at myself without makeup. I would love nothing more than to not feel this way. It may be hard to believe but I have only ever gone out X1 without makeup and that was because I had to attend A&E due to kidney pain.
On a positive note, I look forward to one day having the confidence to go out without make up.

I love her for this! I have a fantasy that this starts a movement toward a polished, real and natural appearance. Showing the world who we really are, and the confidence and self love that would bring.

Considering the SA, CM, and abuse she has endured over the years, makeup probably played a heavy role in her life. It hides the bruises, cuts, and other things those that supposedly care, do to us. I don’t think it should be big news when there are wars going on, but I do believe this is empowering for her, and others who have struggled. I’m happy for Pamela, especially as a fellow SA, CM, and DV survivor.

Jamie Lee Curtis started this movement almost 25 years ago posing on the cover of vanity fair in her bra and underwear no makeup or filter with her grey hair and stretch marks so thank you Jamie Lee for your strength to show women reality with no filters that all women are beautiful letting us know about photoshop and how none of this is real.

I'm here for the intelligent anthropological discussion of makeup and skin care!👏🏽 Everything you said was spot on, so refreshing to hear it! At 36, a beat face isn't serving me like in my 20s and I am realizing that my beautiful, bare, radiant skin with a little liner and lips is all I need on the daily. Thanks for this great discussion.

You'll have to pry my makeup out of my cold, dead hands, lol! On the flip side, as a woman in my mid-40s, I defintely find that less makeup is more flattering, for all the reasons that Dr. Karam discussed. I take really good care of my skin, so I don't feel the need to load up on heavy foundation, or any makeup for that matter. My long way of saying, do what makes you feel good.
