Dr. Liberman, I have to disagree with you on people in pain becoming drug addicts, dependency and addictions are different. Not everyone responds to injections, spinal stimulators and things of this nature, so what do you do when everything else fails, sometimes pain medicine is needed, not just for cancer patients and surgery patients. So what do we do just let these people suffer, for example people with nerve damage? Now a lot of cancer patients and surgery patients aren't even getting pain medicine, because doctors are afraid and believing this false narrative. Some poor doggies have surgery and are being sent home with nothing, this is unacceptable and cruel. Often ignored by the media is that opioid prescriptions have been declining for a decade and that most overdoses are cause by street drugs. Or that medical students now get more training in pain management. This may actually be the best and safest time to prescribe and receive opioid prescriptions. Maybe, though, the place we need to start is with the media, and getting them to tell the true narrative: most pain patients do not become addicted. Also, what you fail to tell these people is that so many of these injections can cause arachnoiditis, ( inflammatory condition of the arachnoid mater or 'arachnoid', one of the membranes known as meninges that surround and protect the nerves) and now this patient will most certainly have pain for the rest of their life. All these injections are expensive and risky, and do have their place when used appropriately, but not for everything. I do believe in being cautious with pain medicine, but definitely with so many diseases they are needed, and actually give many a quality of life. The CDC did not do scientific studies that were accurate, you just can't say something and make it true. You need to have proven studies, this is scientific, not what the CDC did. Now actually since the CDC guidelines more people are dying on the streets than ever before.

What about emotional pain ? Diazepams can be quite mild and are not party drugs. A big help for PTSD

The only real pain relief is opiates. I’ve had debilitating chronic pain for almost 30 years and I tried every kind of pain management treatments there is including physical therapy and to be really honest opiates are the only meds, given the right dose, that truly provide pain relief. Any doctor that says otherwise is dreaming. Because of abuse by drug addicts opiates are now demonized and most doctors are fearful of the DEA these days. Because of unrealistic guidelines established by the DEA people with genuine chronic pain are suffering unnecessarily. As concerning overdoses if the truth be known they’re drug addicts not chronic pain patients. The doctors need to learn to discern the difference.

And on another note, I’m knock on the head all of my kids have grown up now, except for one that we lost in 2012 she became an addict. It had nothing to do with me. It was because she was bullied. We went through that all including losing your home trying to get help, I believe that I have some steak in the game and I have things to offer. She left us with our first grandson.

I have horrendous neuralgia and neuropathy. I have begged for help. I can’t get a dr to refer me. They keep giving me all these sedative meds. That I can’t take at work. I can’t even do my hair anymore. It takes an hour to do a bun from the burning and heaviness of pain in my arms and hands. In my state I have to have a referral I can’t just make an appt 😢. I suffer day in and day out. I can’t work like I want to I do have a job but barely make it 3 shifts.

I understand why my doctor is reluctant to prescribe a narcotic for my pain. I have severe osteoarthritis in my right hip. I was prescribed 75mg Diclofenac twice daily, supplemented with 500mg of acetaminophen 4 times daily. I told my Dr that the diclofenac combined with the acetaminophen was not keeping me out of agony. My primary suggested I go to the ER. I do not want to hate on my primary, she is new to me. Probably really good at her job. It feels irresponsible to go to the ER! It is a waste of my money, a waste of the doctors time when their is plenty of X-rays from my primary showing the damage in the joint. I made an appointment to see an orthopedic surgeon the second my primary allowed the recommendation. It is in 20 days! I am looking at alternatives to help me through 20 days.

Opiods work for me as a chronic pain patient. I’m not an addict, drug seeker and I take my medications as directed. Doctors who treat pain and do not consider opioid therapy as an option are cruel and so full of themselves. Fortunately, my pain management clinic works with me on all levels of pain management including physical therapy, nerve blocks and a reasonable medication schedule that includes opioids. I’m so sick of hearing these holier than thou “pain physicians” paint chronic pain patients with a broad stroke. We’re all going to be addicts. The opposite is true. Pain patients are turning to the streets for relief and many die while doing it. Shame on these heartless doctors. They should all be sued for malpractice!

I wish there was long lasting pain medicine for upper, lower back pain, elbow pain and shoulder pain which wasn't cortisone. Because cortisone Max everything weaker.I am in South Africa and my pain is from another planet. I don't have the right words to express how much pain I have. I had to stop my business because of the severity of my pain. Opioids are also not a good option because they lessen testosterone and make bones weak in the long run. Time now what I'm going to do but I can't take this pain anymore. I get anxious of thinking about elbow and shoulder replacements. If only I could get the latest and best medical treatment for free. No human being in the world should go through this amount of AFRICA

I would have to say about 10 million chronic pain patients would disagree with you. Not everyone in pain should be on pain, medicine, or opioids. But the ones that do need it have every right to live a some what normal life. And it is serious business, and they're dying from strokes, heart attacks, suicide, and other things that apply to not getting proper medical care.
Doctor's know that patients who are not getting the proper pain relief will eventually take their lives. You can check out the studies that have been done on this subject.
And the doctor that is Yapping on this video would do the same thing, too? He would end his life, not that I wanted to die he would just want the pain to STOP!
