My Thoughts on Mario Kart World

Mario Kart World releases on the Nintendo Switch 2 on June 5th, 2025.

Today's reaction was on Nintendo Treehouse and Nintendo Life footage.

I love how even the karts themselves look alive, the animation work is stunning in this game

I feel like the straightaways will be less boring in 150 and potential 200cc. Kind of a bummer that they showed gameplay in 100cc

I am SO glad custom parts seem to be gone. It was a fun novelty, but starting up a game of Mario Kart 8 Deluxe with family or friends takes 5+ minutes because of how much time it takes everyone to scour through dozens of parts in the linear selectors until they're satisfied. I imagine it'll also make things easier to balance and let karts be more deliberately designed visually.

My only concern is that most of the races’ laps seem taken up by the transitioning roads and we only get one lap on the actual race

My take on the pricing is the same as most other people’s that I’ve seen. $450 is a lot but doesn’t seem unreasonable for what you’re getting with the console itself. $80 Mario Kart however is absurd

Hope 200cc returns and here's also hoping that there's more competitive potential for this game.

Respect for showing some critical thinking over parts of this game.
Some concerns of my own:
- Where is inside drift?
- Is the auto drag feature something I can turn off?
- Are there hidden stats like in 8?
- Will there be traditional 3 laps for all 29 tracks with the option to opt out of transition/open world races?
- Are the food bags always a forced costume change? Can I toggle that off?
- Will this game receive a bunch of post launch support in the way of more tracks, open world areas, costumes, vehicles, etc? It may justify the $80USD price.

21:40 There was some footage of the whole demo roster which showed Goomba was there from the start. However, the footage at 23:50 suggests that getting hit by Kamek actually unlocks the character you got transformed into, which is neat

7:38 it looks to me like not only do you change in the middle of the race, but this is also how you unlock new costumes. I think that’s why there’s an exclamation mark there because it means that it’s newly unlocked.

Glad you mentioned the track design because it's frankly the thing I'm most worried about. I'm worried to accommodate 24 players the tracks have gotten wider and straighter with less variety

Nintendo is completely changing up the formula in this game compared to every other MarioKart they've made and I love what I'm seeing so far.

I was worried that the boring straight track would be a part of regular courses, but in the context of potentially 4 or 6 continuous races back to back, I actually think these help allow breathing room instead of having to be always-on for 10 minutes straight or whatever.

You make good points about the Grand Prixes now actually offering something truly different rather than being very similar to VS mode.

I wonder how DLC will be like. Maybe it'll be an entirely separate "world"/open map? I'm not sure whether they intend to expand the existing single open map with more courses and retros.

Let us not forget that Funky Kong still has yet to be confirmed to be in Mario Kart World.
If Funky Kong is not in Mario Kart World I will RIOT.

The game looks awesome and a lot of European retailers are dropping the physical game price by 20€ in hopes of selling more copies than a 90€ game would

Nintendo really went all out with this in my opinion the fact that Knockout is also a thing in a new Mario Kart is beyond me
