I'll sum up this video:

" 'bout the same. "

Good conclusion: long strokes versus buffing. To the eye, both sides looked very smooth. As long as the straight razor's edge has been honed very well, yes, better results might be expected. Not knowing how to hone well (and not having the apparatus), my DE safety razors serve me reliably. Thanks for the demo.

Cool original video👍
I think that this comparative test is also influenced by:
-skill of shaver (you are a master), for deeper shave skin strech is crucial with both types of razors
-type of razors, for straights condition of the edge and for DE quality of the disposable blade.

Me personally I use my straights often but with DE shaves brakes in beetween to not stress to much my skin.
Of course straights give more satisfaction, both in use and sharpening.
I have also a Filarmonica 14, Filis are some of the best razors worldwide, superb blades👍

Thanks for doing this. This confirms my experience. I can get as close of a shave with a safety razor as with a straight, but with more irritation. I think it is because the safety bar on the safety razor lets me cheat and use more pressure. Also, I know for sure that I don't stretch and puff as much with a safety razor as I do with a straight razor. The straight razor forces you to use good technique or there will be blood. The Filarmonica is beautiful too.

I enjoy both. Shavettes and Straight Razors

I like using my Shavette and CJB Kamasori (The one that takes the feather artist club Blades) because there’s no strings attached. You don’t need to get it honed, stroped, oiled, nothing like that.

And I enjoy straight Razors like my Gold Dollar and Theirs-Issard because you get that old world, vintage nostalgic experience. I really enjoy stropping and taking my time during the shave

Sorry but the DE razor gives a much more closer shave than a SR. In your video you’re using a Merkur 15c which is known as being an extremely mild razor so yes you’re going to favor the SR over a DE but if you use a Gillette red tip with a Feather blade than your going to find out that a DE is better and no matter how much you hone and strop your SR it will never be as sharp as a DE blade or as efficient.

In my experience one can expect pretty the same in terms of final results (BBS shave), what really changes it's time and effort required to get there . With a straight razor you will need little more time and much much much more focus and concentration.

I use a safety right now and I enjoy the short strokes technique but I couldn't help but find it satisfying to see you take one long stroke on the straight razor. Which shave would you say is overall more satisfying?

Awesome video my friend!!!! I just got a smooth shave today with my R Saito SK3 smiling razor. I have to admit that the DE does shave in angles that my straight cannot. For example I shave my entire front and back of my neck. So to get a BBS shave on my neck the DE does the job. All in all, from 2014 until this year 2020, I have only used kamisoris and a straight the odd time. Since I bought a cheap Weishi adjustable razor I got back into DE shaving. Actually I use both in one shave. I do prefer the straight razors for the

I knew which one would win from the beginning. Good choice to use the Open Comb Razor...closest to the Straight Razor shave you can get. The Muhle R41 is the closest I've ever had to the Straight...very aggressive razor...you can feel the blade on your face with that razor. BTW....most satisfying stroke for me is with the Straight going up the neck. Straights also provide a more Zen-like experience. CHEERS!

Straight razor is way more smoother and comfortable than a DE.
