When my kids were in car seats I would put my weight in the car seat while I tightened the seat belt. After I got out I adjusted the seat to the correct angle. My technique ensured that seat was not going anywhere!
Another thing to consider is to look into crash test info for your car. If your child is in the back seat behind the front seats what happens during a collision. Does the front seats hold up or do they collapse back onto the back passenger(child)? There have been several killed or severely injured because of front seat failure.
