In the Extended Version, there is a camera move from the dwarves up to Bilbo who is still strolling around Rivendell. He overhears a dialogue between Gandalf and Elrond which explains the motivations of these characters. Elrond has doubts about Thorin, because of his ancestry; suddenly, Thorin is revealed to be standing behind Bilbo, overhearing the scene as well.

In the end Elrond proved to be right unfortunately. Thorin succumbed to dragon sickness and the devastating Battle of the Five Armies took place, the dragon woke up and so many of innocent lives were lost. In fact Smaug although dangarous prevented other forces from coming to the mountain because they would not dare to go so close to the dragon

Gandalf is absolutely right in this! The elves made countless decisions regarding the fate of middle earth for only the worst outcomes occur happen, plenty of times. In this case the dwarves owned their own right to march upon Erebor to reclaim it. Which their quest was for the better/ strengthening of the north overall.

I know they didn't NEED ths scene...but I'm honestly glad to see it.

Its been known in the lore for ages that Gandalf only set up the whole adventure to try and get rid of Smaug and thus secure territory in case Sauron ever came back.

Having Thorin overhear this conversation, and realized that the trusted Wizard was, in fact, just using him adds a fun twist and gives the Dwarves more agency of their own when they ditch the Wizard and go out on their own.

Bilbo was listening to the conversations between Gandalf and Elrond. As he does so, Thorin was behind him, as he was listening to their conversations too in regards of Thorin's family.

Gandalf owes no explanation, the wisest in middle earth, the servant who was chosen by Manwé himself, the sprit who was told not unleash his full power while disguised as an old weak man. It wasn’t Galadriel nor Saruman who was destined to lead the peoples of middle earth. It was Gandalf. Through power of speech and not by force. Gandalf owes no elf or wiseman an explanation. That’s one thing I disliked about the movies.

That scene wasn't deleted. It's in the (extended) movie.

sound mixing seems off, Gandalf and Elrond sound way too close to where Bilbo and Thorin are like they are talking way too loud/indiscrete. Also the reverb, like they are in a closed off space

What if Glorifindel was in LOTR? Who would play him? Maybe Julian Sands. He certainly had the hair and profile of an elf.
