Olive's description: Olive is a free non-linear video editor aiming to provide a fully-featured alternative to high-end professional video editing software. Olive is making rapid progress and users are already producing videos with it, but it's still currently in alpha meaning it is incomplete and not fully stable. Regardless we invite you to download the latest build and try it out for yourself. What can it do? Quite a lot! And new features are being added every day. Even if Olive is missing something you need, come back in a month or two and it's possible it will have been implemented.

Just finished editing my first video of 2+ hours comprising of 11 different clips. Olive wasn't dependent on my GPU entirely, it made use of my CPU and RAM efficiently and IT DID NOT CRASH !

Intel Core i5 9th Gen 2.90 GHz + 32 GB RAM.

Took approx 40 mins to export the entire 2+ hour clip. Size was a constraint for me, so used MP4 format (H 264 Codec with AAC Audio) and total file size was less than 800 MB.

In a nutshell, I'm very impressed and happy that Olive Editor has made a newbie like me to successfully edit a Video. Thanks to the entire OLIVE TEAM. Looking forward for the major release!

Looks extremely promising... I might wait a bit until it gets a bit more stable / polished...

Love this “stream of consciousness”-style review. ;)

Lots of potential on that open source video editing tool.

Surprisingly competent for alpha software. I kept waiting for a hard crash. I remember trying other OSS video editors in their respective alpha stages and they were a disaster, not that they haven't either improved or are now defunct. Thank you for the full and in depth tutorial. My video editing need are simple right now. I may as well use this and grow with it.

Probably the best "how-to" video on YouTube. No BS... no random chatter. Right to the point. Thanks.

Does it have color correction tools yet? What does it have in terms of surround sound mixing if anything. Those are features that are hard to come by in open source video editors.

Wow, it's cool to see how an experienced user of software experiments with something new and learns quickly. I also do that a lot with new programs, but I'm not as proficient with video editing stuff to zip around like that! Nice job. You'd probably make a good beta tester for them. I'm guessing the reason the cross-dissolve didn't work around 16:55 is because the two clips you selected had the same source video file (Videos 4918.mp4). so the dissolve was between two cuts of the same, and therefore invisible to the eye.

Looks like this will be my new video editor. Has everything I need.

Very impressive, I'd like to see how much (if any) advantage it takes of GPU acceleration -- and it would be useful if you told us the hardware specs of the platform you were testing it on.

However, I think I'll stick with Davinci Resolve for my own video editing work.

This is the best review I ever seen xD I like to see people figuring out new software on their own xp

A very exciting project. Seems like I'd already prefer it over Kdenlive.

Can you move 2 clips (a little bit) together and the editor adds a autotransition like Sony Vegas?

Regarding the lagging: What resolution were those videos in? Maybe it can make proxy clips to work on smaller videos in the timeline and smooth out the editing process?

I wonder how render quality compares.

Back in the day, Premiere rendered MUCH sharper than Pinnacle, Nero etc.

You got me curious. I was in bed watching YouTube, but wound up getting up to try Olive out. Looks nice. I have new toy tomorrow.
