Gewa G5 Studio 5 Review

Today I'm reviewing the Gewa G5 Studio 5. Currently it's the cheapest drum set in the Gewa lineup, while retaining a lot of features of the more expensive kits. So is it any good?

Corrections: As you saw from the spec sheet on screen, it's 901 sounds. For some reason I read that number backwards on camera as 109 🤦‍♂

I am just going to say it. The flow of positive energy from you is as great as are all your videos. Thank You.

For a German company to miss all the details seems silly. I would wager that the Efnote 3x is better.

What Geva should do is realise they have a tremendous resource in their homeland and bring in Drumtec as advisors.

Great review as always on a brand that I was hoping to revolutionize the e-drum market. So disappointing with all the kits and reviews that you do that these companies can't put out a better initial product that innovates and gets drummers excited to run out and buy. The drum and cymbal sounds are promising but triggering a most important necessity should be a no brainier at this point. The flaws on this set are inexcusable at the price point. Gewa please go back to the drawing board and get this right. Justin looking forward to your next review. Thanks.

Well done review.
I only just heard of this brand yesterday and you did an extremely good job of telling us everything that this is and isn’t.
Plus describing all the ways it’s unique.

Really above average product review video here, mate. You can be proud of this one for sure.
😎👍👍

you should try all of these pads (specially the cymbals) with another module. A Roland td30 maybe… see if the hotspots are present

No, no. I'll take ef note 3X over this. Love that video on how to convert an acoustic kit electronically Justin! Love that video and that good lookin sonor behind you! I'd like to convert a 6 piece ludwig sometime! Labor of love. 🤩

Awesome vid! Not sure why any of these companies put out gear that has obvious issues, especially at this price range. The cymbal performance is unforgivable when considering what efnote offers for less..

I'm surprised there were that many little issues on a kit at this price point. I would expect more of that on a kit that costs a lot less. I also THINK I have noticed that the quality and performance of drums between the $1500 - $3000 ish range seems to vary a lot. What I am trying to say is sometimes what you get doesn't really seem like a $3000 drum set, vs one that is half the cost. I might be wrong, but it doesn't really seem like a $3000 drum set is twice as good as a $1500 one. This might be a grave oversimplification, but just something I think I started to notice.
Edit: Also mainly talking about kits that are not full size, or that don't have large wood shells.

I feel that with Abit more software development and a lower price adjustment these could be a really good option

Wonder how this will trigger with software like AD2, EZ3 and SD2....
I was so excited to get the Alesis Strike Pro, but it didn't take long for me to regret that purchase.... Went straight back to Roland

Nice review, Justin!
I'm looking to "betray" the edrum community with an acoustic drum set I plan on getting in the not so distant future, but these reviews are top notch.
Who knows, maybe your reviews can help me find an edrum set that can convince me to stay... xD

Thanks, as always!

it's offered now for 1500€ in Germany and I think it's fair price, but this mentioned zone problems I think is still to much

Excellent analysis of what it does under its own steam, and from your summation it'd be difficult to ignore any of the competition from other brands. The cymbal performance is worrysome however if a patch could improve this symptom of not playing repeated strikes then it'd be a deal breaker. The module looks like it can route you to your desired settings via multiple intuitive methods; which means you can change as you desire even if you forget how you accessed it the last time. As mentioned by other posts, interaction between DAW and production tools would be another lesson to learn from, the positives you've gratefully touched upon with multiple port: number, type and format controls. Those shortcomings would put a touring pro off this, with a static or practice room setup being favoured.

For how expensive it is and the intention of selling more than Roland, I think it should polish its trigger/sensitivity system...

two years later, we can find the G5 Studio at 1500 EUR. Would it be a good deal?
