Marble Conveyor Belt Completed! - Marble Machine X #78

Показать описание
The Marble Conveyor Belt is Completed and it delivers Perfectly.
- lifts 8 marbles per crank turn.
- thanks to it being driven by ratchets and pistons, it makes a short halt to load and unload the marbles, on exactly the same spot every time.
- The pistons are connected to the crank shaft with a 2:1 gear reduction which means that the conveyor belt go in time with the music, and in half time. I can even use the mechanical sounds from the ratchets and the marbles climbing the fish stair to create parts of the beats.
- I only had one kick drum channel up and running so the kick drum plays on 2-4 like a snare normally would. Sounds a little strange but I just made this piece of music to demonstrate the concepts are working. (no music you hear in the videos are going to be used for the album, its quick and dirty functional pieces for the videos only)
- Its been a journey but we are now on our way. Again.
- the throw of the pistons s 40mm, the pitch of the chain is 15,875x2 mm, an imperial value, and it happens to be exactly twice the marble diameter. All this makes it possible to lift exactly one row of marbles per crank turn. The ratchets move 40 mm but only grabs onto the chain to move it exactly 31,75mm per crank turn.
The carriers are flame polished cnc:ed acrylic
- The chain was custom made in Japan and I waited 5 months for it to be delivered. haha. Of all the time consuming darlings on the MMX I love the conveyor belt /fish stair combo the most.
- the marbles looks like they are stuck over the demagnetiser wheel, this is by design, as soon new marbles come into the pipes from below, the marbles are slowly pushed over the demag wheel which ensures perfect demagnetisation.

- thanks for watching and believing in the project, good luck with everything that you are doing!

Martin

man, this is the heartbeat of the machine. It's finally alive!

This is the first time we are seeing marbles make a complete circulation in the machine. Its not complete but now there is blood flowing, and its heart has begun to beat... I love following this project so much :D

The precision level is absurdly perfect. A work of a genius. An engineer and a musician highly skilled in one man.

Officially, the first music produced on the MMX. I'm still smiling.

As someone who’s been watching Martin since the beginning, it’s breathtaking to see all his efforts come to fruition. I can’t imagine the emotions he feels right now.

this goes into history as the first beat ever performed by machine X

Whenever Youtube suggests a Marble Machine X video with "Part X Completed!" in the title, I check the year and enjoy a sad chuckle for Martin's learning process. What a journey!

Wow. This video left me sitting here for the entire seven-and-a-half minutes, grinning from ear to ear. So amazing!

Just love how the machine noises are parts of the music

You should get a diamond drag engraver for the CNC and engrave all the collaborators permanently on the machine. It could be a subtle but an awesome way to show how many people have helped this project.

Rewatching the series over the last few days, I can TOTALLY understand now why Martin has redesigned and rebuilt so many parts of the machine over and over again. It's because this man is dedicated to give us, the viewers and by extension the audience, the absolute best machine he can possibly make. You can see now rewatching these videos where all those small failures have been adding up- machine wobble, marble clogs, marble divider problems, release gates, all those things combine to make a subpar machine. Not a subpar machine if the goal was to play it a bunch of times on film and hope one take is flawless, like the last machine. But a subpar machine if the goal is to have a >99.9999% reliable touring instrument that will give us the best damn show that Martin feels compelled to deliver. I believed then, and I still believe now. We're rooting for you Martin, you are a god damn inspiration!

Oh, these stupid chopped onions...
Martin, after 77 videos, after watching you moving to France, carrying stuff through Countries, after your timelapses of the french sky, and the arrangement of the new workshop, after your discouragement in some moments, all the hours passed in Fusion360, the effort to create a project working method...
So... after I saw all this, I can drop a tear.
"It's only one guy on a youtube channel..."
No, he is Martin from Wintergatan. And his effort and his passion, are giving to him (and to his followers) the strength to carry on.

A 7 and a half minute ASMR MMX video that I didn’t know I needed until now

The sound of the belt moving is already quite the beat of its own.

I’m reminded of the DaVinci quote “Simplicity is the ultimate sophistication”. That may be true but complexity has a beauty and elegance all its own.

I am in tears. Absolutely exquisite! I can see every story about each piece replaying in my mind as I watch this.

It is going to be so emotional when he plays the "Marble Machine Song" on this thing.

This dude is legitimately revolutionary when it comes to music. Hes brilliant. Making excellent music, in an absolutely unthinkable way for the present day. Absolutely awesome.
