I played this at my husband's funeral this year, January 2021. The love of my life, 46 years old. I had to travel 4600 miles to be with him, and every day with him was just like heaven. I feel so, so fortunate to have had a love like this. So many people never do. I miss him with a constant, nagging, palpable ache.. that will never go away. The Cure always seemed melancholic even in their happiest songs but I really love that because it makes us appreciate life for whatever we get out of it.

I was a skateboarder back in my younger days and fell in love with a beautiful tan brunette girl at the beach. She was flirting with me while watching me perform some relatively easy skateboarding tricks. I only knew her for one short day but she hung out with me all day long. At the end of the day just before the sun set My parents said it was time to go. I wanted to kiss her so bad but like most kids I was to scared and filled with butterflies in my stomach, feeling like my heart was going to explode I chickened out and instead I said goodbye and gave her a smile. I jumped in the back of our old ford pickup truck bed with a slight sunburn and my skateboard in hand and drove out of her life forever. This song always haunts me and takes me back to that moment in time, back when I was just a Jr high kid and still had my innocence. Trudy was her name.
