Have you ever wondered what a Bob Ross painting would look like in 3D… the kind of 3D you can put your hand through! Then this tutorial is for YOU.

I’ve watched lots of Bob Ross painting videos and I’ve seen countless others attempt their versions of ‘The Joy of Painting’ episodes and I guess now it’s my turn. For this tutorial I’ve decided to model a painting Bob Ross did in season 12, episode 8. It depicts a grassy field with distant trees and a stream running towards the front of the frame with a small waterfall.

I chose this particular episode because of its scale, a lot of Bob Ross painting depict very distant hills and large bodies of water however I wanted to try and stick to building a scene that was 1:87th scale so I was going to need a scene a little more compact. 1:87th scale aka HO scale is the scale I typically work in and it is the most popular scale among model railroaders.

So come along on this journey as I take you through all the steps involved in creating an awesome diorama that will amaze anyone who is lucky enough to see it in person!

All of the techniques I use to create this diorama scene are standard techniques used for model railroading, the products I used can mostly be found at good model railroad hobby shops. I tend to use a lot of Woodland Scenics mainly because they are easy for me to find and purchase locally.

You should do more Bob Ross paintings! That would be a really cool miniseries

These trees aren't too bad. . .
let's completely redo them.

Luke: You only need to do a few modifications to improve these trees...

proceeds to then remake the entire tree...

SO AMAZING! You should recreate the barn scene from 1917 with the crashed plane! Miniature movie sets would be a cool miniseries as well! Keep up the great work!

Seeing you use the Noch Snow, now I'd love to see you do an alpine or tundra scene. Maybe an old Siberian railroad station?

I have made one but now my neighbours are complaining there's a box sticking out of the wall of their bedroom!

All of this dirt you've been collecting from your back yard, I'm sure you can't have a lot left.

beautiful example of how a diorama does not need to be the size of a coffee table to be overwhelmingly impressive. amazing

Dude I build Gundam model kits and sometimes dioramas for them. So one day while researching new techniques I clicked on this channel and its been my go to ever sense! This dude has skills far beyond the Japanese modelers I used to watch!! For all the pro modelers watching this, do your self a favor and watch all his other videos!! Your skills will get boosted tenfold and you won’t regret it! To Luke Towan, thanks for all your hard work!!! 👍👍

There is no such thing as a mistake, they are happy accidents. I have enjoyed watching this video as much as I enjoy the Joy of Painting.
