Well this was disappointing....I've recommended these split ring pliers to people for years.....Sad how they've been made less effective, efficient, and robust.

Make sure you check out J and H Tackle's awesome deals and giveaways!

Xuron is simply the best in the business for all you split ring you will need. I use mine for my musky lures all the time.

Good thing I have two of the original orange ones. And a green handle pair for my big plugs.

I can now comfortably say that the best all around pliers(for me)these days are the Halco brand split ring pliers. They use a completely different method of opening the ring by using grooves cut in the jaws that allow for and initial opening of the ring, which is usually enough for most small to mid ring sizes, and superior grip when adding a little pull pressure to get those larger diameter rings to open that little extra bit. I still use the tt ones, but mine are wearing out, and after seeing this, I may just stick with the Halco ones from now on.

When using the Xurons, instead of taking the tips out from the split and re-grasping them from around the outside, it's easier you leave the tips of the pliers in the split ring and rotate that way.

My favorites are the shimano split ring pliers. Both small and the large size are graceful on splits especially in the 200+ pounds

I prefer Xuron Brand. Made in the U.S.A and amazing attention to detail. The Halco Ring Tool is also really nice from Australia. They have some handle material that gets really slick when wet though, whereas the Xuron has a nice textured grip. The Xuron also have a smaller “hook” on the opposing side of the wedge, which holds the split ring in the optimum place so it doesn’t roll. Even on 00. And no, I have no affiliation to either company. Just ran across them after tossing my other POS pliers when I got fed up.

I also ordered the $10 Tt pliers from Amazon, only I received an ignition coil(???) . Thanks to your vid, I did not order a replacement, only a refund.

Any split ring plier updates? "Taxes Tackle" had claimed they were working out supplier issues around the time you posted this. I'm just wondering if the refined the pliers a bit in the last 4 years, but I saw a recent amazon review that said theirs said "Taxes" on them too, so I assume it's still from the same batch.

I got some from Walmart and it’s good enough for me

Literally bought texas tackle pliers 2 weeks ago from your earlier video.... oh well gonna keep using them. They worked fine. I don't change that many split rings. Took off those damn trebles on my new 6th sense crankbait. Small split ring was a bit of a chore the first time but good after that. All my cranks are getting single hooks. Don't care what my buddies say about missing hookups

A lot of companies went to the crapper bin to buy their replacement gear. As an aside, I no longer buy Carhartt-GE-Motorola-(long list) because they sold out to the board and shareholders for profit over quantity.

Aside #2: I actually REALLY like my lil KVD's because they also have held their edge for braid in addition to the snap ring tooth working pretty darn good... but I'm also a newbie.

Have you looked closely at the name on the pliers? I just got my pair in and they were fake. Says “Taxas Tackle” right on the side of them.

I recently purchased a pair of Texas Tackle and was very disappointed. Like you said, they are too bulky in the tip. Very hard to use. I'm looking for a different pair now.

For the most time I have a surprise good ones the 3-5 dollar mustad split ring. For the large split rings the Shimano 7" power plier good for #5-11

How about giving the Toit Tackle pliers a testing? A little pricey but look like they could be the answer to all of my split ring issues.

Yep. Mine say Taxes Tackle also. Purchased from EBay a year ago. I messaged a seller that showed black jaw pic on EBay when I saw your IG post couple days ago, got the standard " we don't sale counterfeit items in our store" reply. They all use same images anyway. BUMMER
