4.3 million people could be out of work due to ill health by the end of this Parliament, ushering in an era of “disease and bankruptcy” for Britain, according to a new report from The Institute for Public Policy Research.

Camilla and Kamal look at the report’s recommendations, including higher taxes on unhealthy foods, and ask if more nanny statism will really drag the country out of a health and economic crisis.

Maybe actually pay a decent wage, fix the NHS and migration. It's hard for the unemployed too, the restart scheme is terrible and causes mental health issues. Then also those who are unwell often don't get disability when they should. They're forced to stay on the minimum or can't hold a job.

It's not the "sicknote culture" that's "killing Britain" it's the mass-immigration that has led to 75% of entry-level jobs created in the last 15 years being filled by those who were not born here and who are willing to forego employment rights and benefits in order to remain. This has had the double-whammie of Britons being offered work for peanuts and being discriminated against for simply being British. Unemployment benefit is often less the the highest level of sickness benefit, which also comes with additional perks like free prescriptions. It's only logical that those who cannot compete in the entry-level jobs market will compete to maximise their incomer on benefits...

I was out of work, took a low paid 6am start cleaning job, (NHS), after paying bills I was £20 a week better off than I was on benefits. So in reality I was working for 50p an hour.

I am disabled, o worked my whole life and paid taxes, but they want me to go back to work, for what? I can't work in my chosen profession and am on a ton of medication every day, but they are saying that I can sit in a seat, not without having to swallow too many pain lillers than my body cant handle. People suffering from Covid / Jab related medical problems may well make up a large proportion of the workless but undoubtedly there there is a benefits 'Culture' in places where wages are low and it just does not pay to go to work or compete for the few low paid jobs on offer. Who said 'Education, Education, Education' and why did that not materialise?
