Last weekend, Europeans went to the polls to elect the members of the European Parliament. Polls were predicting a surge for the far right - but while that is somewhat true, the overall picture is complicated by a fragmentation of EU politics. So, who really won?

Our mission is to explain news and politics in an impartial, efficient, and accessible way, balancing import and interest while fostering independent thought.

TLDR is a completely independent & privately owned media company that's not afraid to tackle the issues we think are most important. The channel is run by a small group of young people, with us hoping to pass on our enthusiasm for politics to other young people. We are primarily fan sourced with most of our funding coming from donations and ad revenue. No shady corporations, no one telling us what to say. We can't wait to grow further and help more people get informed. Help support us by subscribing, engaging and sharing. Thanks!

Cyprus elected a 24 year old YouTuber as an MEP, who has NO idea how the EU works as a protest vote to all traditional parties. This video is correct in saying that in some countries people use these elections to send a message to their national governments.

Barely anything will change. I can see EU getting harsher on migration, international support and green course mostly, but that's about it...

First time in the history of the Italian Republic in which more than 50% of those entitled to vote did not vote. We are tired.

"Only two countries: Germany and France."

Which is basically the entire EU in political and economic terms.

I don't understand why you say the right underperformed in Belgium, when the top 2 parties (in Flanders) are both right alligned.

The European Parliament can't initiate legislation. This power is reserved for the Commission.

In 6:45 you mention that the right underperformed in Poland. While on the European scale, it might be true to some extent. Domestically, this is a very wrong statement. Konfederacja has got 12, 08% support just after government group (KO) 37, 06% and the main opposition party (PiS) 36, 16%. This is a huge score for them, and the amount of MEPs won by it confirms that (6 in total). This also comes as a shock to us here in Poland, because Konfederacja's motto is pretty much "The EU is the source of all evil in Poland". Also, we quite literally have a party named The Third Way, which was created to offer an alternative to both KO and PiS. You might have noticed by now that, as we call it, the 3D was the real underperformer here, and has shown that the space for the alternative to mainstream parties remains contested.

Don't forget that real power in EU rests with commissioners, not parliament.

I dislike how the Non-Inscprit was portrayed, as currently all of Hunagrys votes are withing it, mostly becouse of the new liberal TiSza party

I would like a TLDR summary of the Non-Inscrits/Others to see where they are on the political map, rather than placing them as a chunk on the "right".

Coming from an American with a 2 party system: fragmentation is good. You're better with 10 parties than 2.

@4:07 it is stated that "Renew has 80", but the screen shows the number 79. This is a small numerical error, but all the other numbers are voiced and shown on the screen as exact matches. It only takes an attentive previewer to spot these issues before publication.

BTW the IND from Hungary lost 2 fidesz members and didn't gain any. They gained 7 members from the new biggest opposition party, TISZA, and the first party in Hungary to rise up and possible challenge them in the last 14 years

This is the first video in hundreds that I've heard you say "far-left" which is good because before you categorized half the population as "far-right" and I never heard you categorize anyone as "far-left" before. This is a good step in the direction of actually becoming a non-biased news source.

The numbers are based on old projected data and are now outdated. The newest data from europe elects are as follows:

EPP 188
SnD 135
ECR 82
Renew 80
ID 64
Greens 54
Left 41

Bottom line, people of Europe are sick of forced uncontrolled migration and the chaos it is causing.
