The most important reason that makes greek similar to spanish is not only many words that romans borrowed from the greeks and spreaded in all latin countries but mostly the fact that the two languages use very similar phonetical patterns and pronunciations to the point that if a greek sees a group of spanish speaking from a distance he will think for a while that they speak greek and vice versa.😊

This makes me want to learn Greek now! I’m Honduran and Greek descent but I grew up speaking English and Spanish, and never really learning about my Greek heritage until I grew older. It’s amazing how similar the languages are! I know Tagalog is also very similar to Spanish as well.

Well Greek and Roman (Latin) actually share a lot in common, even culture. So it's not surprising their languages are so similar. Maybe Latin and Greek where the same languages and they started using different alphabets over time. Even thr Roman and Greek originated from the same alphabet.

Well no one calls weather klima in greek. Its technicaly right but if her first language is greek and she wasnt told to say klima she would have said kairos. Because you dont translate "whats the weather like?" into "Πως είναι το κλίμα;" you would say "Πως είναι ο καιρός;".

This is misleading because they cheericked words that happen to be similar. There had been thousands of words derived from greek that had been incorporated into latin. Later, latin spread into the western Roman empire. The various speeches of vulgar latin, with time, evolved to the various romance languages we know now : Spanish, french, Italian, Portuguese, etc. That said, having lots of words with greek roots does not change the fact that most of the vocabulary, the grammar structure, etc. Are totally different in romance languages vs greek. They are part of distinct linguistic groups. Spanish is hundreds of time closer to french or Italian than it is to Greek.

An article I read several years ago spoke about a man from Argentina while he was in a Library in Cuba, there was a book that said about 70, 000 Spanish words were derived from Greek. That explains why as a Greek-American when I took 4 years of Spanish in high school, I'd actually confuse my Greek & Spanish and my Dad would often ask me if I spoke Greek with a Spanish accent or Spanish with a Greek accent.

Comparing with a speaker from Spain would have made far more sense, since Spain's phonetics are almost identical to Greek. Mexican Spanish is very soft and has no θ.

So the Greek gal here upon hearing Castillian Spanish from Spain would be shocked. If you take Spanish from Cental and Northern Spain and a Greek person from Greece, they have the same phonetic sound. So again like in the video, some of the words are the same, however European Spanish from Central and No Spain and Greek sound alike. From afar, they each think the person they are hearing is speaking another dialect in Greek or Spanish or they are drunk and making up a language. Its really unbelievable. But remember, Greece helped colonize Spain. Spanish has many Arabic and Greek words as well as Latin Roman words.
